Well that are going to walk it. There is very little interest in basketball outside the US.

:wtf: Wow you are incredibly wrong. The interest in the US is actually very much LACKING in comparison to other countries. Hell, check out China. Those are some basketball loving people.

Coz he doesn't play for the US :)

All the chinese players who played for the US in table-tennis or the Kenyan runner who ran for us in the 1500 and 5000, those guys are true American patriots. Kaman on the other hand, you know... ought to be shot or something.

Whats the issue with that? I don't see any harm with players that play in U.S. sports playing for their home country during the olympics. Pretty cool to me.

I wonder if he HAD to play for Germany. Many countries make players wishing to play professional sports abroad sign a contract that IF they play at all Olympics, it has to be for the home country. China, for instance, has such a policy.

No.

Here's the story.

Kaman isn't German. He's not even close to German. He doesn't know one word of the German Language. He is as American as they come. His Parents aren't German, born in America. His GRAND Parents aren't German, again born in America. His GREAT GRAND Parents were German though.

Kaman was not good enough to be on the US basketball team. He found out that there is a stipulation with the Olympics that if you have ancestry with another country(even GREAT Grandparents) that you can theoretically apply for citizenship and play for that country. The only reason this is still allowed is because no one in their right mind would trace all the way back to a GREAT Grandparent. Well, Kaman did. Kaman literally applied for German Citizenship THIS YEAR(as in 2008) just to be in the Olympics. Kaman knows not one word of the German language. On top of that KAMAN HAD NEVER BEEN TO GERMANY IN HIS LIFE!!!!!!

What Kaman did tarnishes what the Olympics are about. He exploited a stipulation to play for another country he had no business playing for. Being in the Olympics is about being the best in YOUR country and representing YOUR country. Kaman wasn't good enough for the USA team, so he decided to be greedy and get into the Olympics by applying for citizenship in a country he was good enough to join.

i wouldnt say "NO" business, since he does have some german blood in him, and since we are not athletes, i dont think we see it from the same perspective as he does. That said, i think its really dirty what he did.
