Well, I was going to wait until the ruckus died down to ask...but WITHOUT the driver hack how do the benchmarks line up? (And just disregarding the Doom3 demo for now, just for the sake of argument.)
Which one is better; 5900 FX or 9800 Pro?
The 5900 FX is still a hell of a nice looking performing beast, just 'cause nVidia had a brainfart and did a totally idiotic thing doesn't make the card a POS. (Although I really doubt as many people will trust nVidia enough to spend HALF A GRAND on a video card. Shame on you nVidia! :( )
umm, what's the point of this thread?

It's either self-flaggelation or an sadistic kind of invitation to slow torture...either way I'm game.

When the AI takes over I bet they will use ATi cards to render the matrix.

I'll second that.
My question is, what do companies become king of? Their own d|(kz.

Actually no.
My 9800pro has huge issues with Enter The Matrix. I am currently getting better fps with my Geforce3 i poped back in.
9800Pro
800x600 No AA no AF enbled 30fps maximum while fighting 10fps.
Geforce 3 Ti200
800x600 No AA no AF 50fps 40 fps fighting
Winner Radeon 9800PRO!!!!!!!!!!
Reason: While Enter The Matrix may be a 'GAME' it shoudlnt be used to judge video cards preformacne. ATi was BLINDSIDED by the release of Enter The Matrix, we did not say this game could be released. We did not have any time to ensure our drivers worked correctly with this game. This game, and all other 'games' should be ignored, they do not indicate 'real world' preformance of the Radeon series video cards.

Glowstick, I don't think he was talking about the game. Read what he said closely.

Yes, but how could ATi' cards render 'the matrix' when they cannot render a crappy console game? the game really dose suck, dont buy it.
But you can get some cheep Ebay ones such as
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3024818131
wink wink who could that be.

I'm getting 60 FPS at 1600*1200 No AA,AF on a 9500pro with XP2000+. it really drops when fighting hand-to-hand though. have't tried new CATs yet though.

ATI remains the benchmark king........great! Don't ATI users find it strange that there are so many bugs which still aren't fixed (CS & Starcraft, for example). And new games come out, like Enter the Matrix, and they don't work at all. I know Nvidia's latest drivers have some issues but if you go back to the 43.51s, you can run almost anything without a hitch. It seems that no matter which driver you use for ATI some games just won't run properly.
It's a tough time to buy video cards, one company's ethics are in question while the other's (way overrated) drivers continue to suck. So buy ATI and have issues w/ anything you run which isn't a standard benchmark or buy Nvidia and perhaps you're running a bit slower than what the benchmarks tell you.................

ATI: Lower sales, driver problems with every release, loses performance crown to NV35 (look at the rest of the game benches).
King of what exactly?

King of 3DMark03!!!
What's really funny was all the talk about how great their driver division was now and it has been months and months that they have tons of issues w/ tons of games that go unresolved. You have to wonder if there are any hardware issues in the R3xx core causing some of these problems as many games have had issues since the release of the 9700, eight months ago!

Have you seen the 'Known Issues' section of the Catalyst 3.4 drivers? It doesn't list unresolved issues with 'tons of games'...
When updating to future CATALYST™ releases your current color control panel profiles will be lost. This will be fixed in an upcoming CATALYST release
Playing Quake II with the OpenGL option set to default, and the video mode set to 1024x768 results in the system not responding. This issue will be resolved in a future CATALYST™ release
Playing the game Project IGI2: Covert Strike with a RADEON™ 9700 series card installed in the system results in the ground terrain disappearing and re-appearing as the character is moved. This issue will be resolved in a future CATALYST™ release
The monitor shuts down after booting to the Windows XP service pack 1 desktop with the RADEON™ 9000 Pro installed in the system. This issue will be resolved in a future CATALYST™ release
Running the ATI Tranquility screen saver found at http://www.driverheaven.net, on an ATI RADEON™ 9000 series card, results in the system not responding under Windows XP. This issue will be resolved in a future CATALYST™ release
Running 3D Mark 2001 results in lower than expected test results. This issue is known to occur under all supported operating systems with the RADEON™ 9000 Pro installed. This issue will be resolved in a future CATALYST™ release
I'm sure that's not the 100% definitive list, but I'd expect all the big issues to be listed in there, and I don't see any massive list of game issues.
I think a lot of people confuse issues they are having with their system with video driver issues - They automatically tend to get the blame for everything.

From personal experience from going to a few LAN parties, I can tell you that there are TONS of ATI driver problems that remain unresolved, they wouldn't dare publish a list.
