What should the remaining 3 character types be? Blizzard has apparently stated that only the Barbarian will feature again, the others will be new.

Name them and also give a brief description of their skills.

I guess there is no Necromancer, but I want some kind of similar character who is based on summoning other creatures to do its fighting for it. I guess a beast summoner, even though they had that before too.

Lets be honest, the characters between WoW and Diablo II had some common themes, though the skill sets, how skills are worked, out, etc have different specifics. Nonetheless, what evolved out of what is kinda obvious. Take for instance the druid, which is in both. Specifically they are different (no healers/resto in Diablo II), though shape shifting in concept wasn't all that different from wolf and bear druids in DII. As different as they are (no tanking concepts in Diablo II either), it's kinda obvious how in concept, the developers had Diablo druids on their mind almost from a starting point. However, they built it up more, gave it other stuff, and then fit it into a new game environment.

The mage, sorcerer, yes looking at skills/talents one can get some specific differences, but on a more general level, they're rather similar in idea. The martial arts assasin and the rogue (and yet rogues have some things like lockpicking, and not others such as a teleport/attack); albeit the hunter picked up the traps of the assasin (and yes the mechanics are different on how it works), and the pets the druid could have (well the druid's were summoned), and kinda lumped them together. Even a barbarian and a warrior can somewhat be looked at as different guises for the same thing, in the most general sense (baring specifics such as tanking for instance again). Paladins are in both, DII and WoW as a class, though with different specifics again...

Probably, something similar will happen. Some of the thinking that went into WoW might pop up in selecting chars, but different game and genere, the mechanics will very. Afterall (and baring that employees have changed somewhat), the people who thought up the ideas for one, sorta "share" their own minds with themself, when getting creative on something else. One thing has a way of sorta developing/evolving out of another.

But this said, if things do have some loose similarities (ala a mage vs a sorcerer); I'd expect the mechanics of the game to probably force them to be about as dis-similar in how you actually play them as well.

If they can make it fit with the theme of the game, this is an awesome idea. :)

Ninja : Assassin from the far east. Specializes in stealth.
Bigman : Burly Beast from Chicago. Makes a perfect item mule.
Blood Mage : Inflicts injury upon self to use powerful magic.
crainger : The blunder from down under. Can flee battle with amazing speed.
Zelda-Fan : Professional Streetball player from New York. Likes to "waggle" in his free time.

I would use a bow and arrow too.

A battlemage. Can use certain spells, but can wield light weapons, and use light armor.

The characters must be split between ranged(archers), tanks(barbarian obviously), mage(with spells), hybrid(like battlemage), and another either summoner or something similar at least.

I thought in Diablo 2, they kinda made the sorceress kinda like a battle mage of sorts, except the skills didnt really reflect it

the unique Mage Plate was alright, (which was a light plate armor) but I wouldnt use it over my Arkaine Valor

but now I think of it, you could wear anything on anyone... right?

ah good times though, game was pro

DEAR everyone talking about halfmagetypes.. and casting and wielding weapons still:

THIS ISNT F**KING WOW!!!!

ITS DIABLO

YOU CAN USE ANY ITEM SO LONG AS YOUR STR SAYS SO

YOU CAN CUSTOMIZE ANY CHARACTER TO DO ANYTHING

THE ONLY THING THAT IS CHAR SPECIFIC IS DUAL WIELDING

YOUR SORC CAN HAVE A SWORD AND SHIELD

YOUR PALADIN CAN USE A BATTLESTAFF

there is no.. running around "casting light magic" and attacking with "light armor"

this isnt a gay fantasy game like wow or many previous mmo's..

its the diablo franchise.. a dark, dreary, blood and guts, slaughtering hordes of monsters in SECONDS with 8 dudes and running at fast paces through swarms of beasts...

there is no watch and play...

you make a character based on the synergies sure.. but you can create anything you want..

there will be a sorc based character and a paladin based character...

it seems like the witchdoctor is half necro half druid.. so im not sure the expansion will unleash a druid like character

and im tired of typing.

did you ever play Diablo or Diablo 2?

I dont think Diablo 3 will feature a sorceress in heavy plate and sword shield because you want to.

and I don't think Diablo3 is going to be carbon copy Diablo 2, it will be more refined, with better options and tighter abilities on the classes making it balanced.

I kinda dont want ethereal items to come back in Diablo 3, i would be ****ing PISSED to get a windforce ethereal, although it would do mad **** damage, it would still break... (no slots)

but perhaps they will have skills like WoW, engineering and **** which can add to this to make you more pro then the next archer, by playing enough to have that ethereal wind force with zod rune...

has any of you ever played pristontale? i loved that game back in the day.

i never got a chance to get into diablo but it seems along the same line as pristontale, or vice versa.

As long as it takes 6+ months to unlock it at which point come to find out it wasn't in the game at all anyway, and if you die your character gets deleted.
