The competition goes on, isn't that great. By that time the HD 4850 x2 is also going to be out to compete but probably not in the same price range.
Anybody guess what NVIDIA will name the new card.
One more TPC!NVIDIA will offer a upgraded GTX 260 in mid-September
August 21st, 2008 by Jeff NEWS, NVIDIA at Expreview (http://en.expreview.com/2008/08/21/nvidia-will-offer-a-upgraded-gtx-260-in-mid-september/#more-663).

The graphic card battle is getting more fierce right now. Our source just inform us that NVIDIA will upgrade GTX 260 in mid September, offering one more TPC inside the G200 GPU.

The original GTX 260 have 8 TPCs (Texture Processing Cluster) totally, but the new GTX 260 have 9 TPCs. That means the numbers of shader processor have been increased from 192 to 216. In G200 chip, one TPC contains 24 shader processors.

Other than the TPC upgrade, the other specs are keeps the same. That means the card still runs at 576/1242/999Mhz (core/shader/memory), Memory interface keeps 448bit, and memory size is 896MB.

We guess that this upgrade will help the card to suppress HD 4870. But HD 4850 X2 is right around the corner…

So in theory, a speed boost of 12.5% at stock clocks. A die-shrink and higher base clock in addition to this change would have made a nice refresh, with something of a 25-40% gain. But 12.5% isn't much. It just further closes the gap between the GTX260 and GTX280. Heck, just call it the GTX270 and be done with it :)

Meh...

Hopefully nvidia has more to bring to the table than that.

Also, this card better be $250 because the prices are still dropping.

If true this would put theoretical performance near FTW speeds IMO which depending on the game gives me a 5-20+ fps boost

Crysis being the low end, along with games like World in Conflict

Call of Duty 4 went from 88 -> 107 so it scales much better obviously

The new upgraded GTX 260 will not use 55nm but still use 65nm, it seem that the upgraded GTX 260 are the same chip with 192 shaders. I think a BIOS flash to enable 1 extra TPC will be working fine.
