I was just wondering if a GTX 280 uses more power then a 8800GTX ULtra.

Yes, by a lot.

The GTX 280 can pull almost as much as 2 8800gtx cards.

EDIT: My bad, I think I was thinking about 2 9800GTX cards. It looks like it pulls around 25W more than an 8800GTX does.

And according to pcper, an ultra pulls like 30W more than a GTX does... So apparently they are very close even though the GTX 280 uses an 8 pin and a 6 pin power connector.

I have been reading more about it and Evga shows that a 8800GTX Ultra needs about 34 amps and a overclocked GTX 280 needs around 40amps,so it does need qiute a bit more .It was more then I thought it was going to be ,I thought they would use about the same. But according to Evga a GTX 280 uses about 72 more watts then a single 8800GTX Ultra.
Does the 8800GTX Ultra and the GTX 280 use the same die size of 65n

The 8800 GTX & Ultra are made on 90nm. The GTX 280 uses a 65nm process.

The GTX280 uses around 30W more at full load than the 8800GTX, and if i remember, the Ultra used around 30W more than the standard 8800GTX, so, i guess that they need the same power +-. But, take care, cause, the new gfx cards are very sensible to the amperage in the 12V rails. You really need to balance the load between them, to feed your gfx card properly.
