Graphics are corrupt for most people in game though I heard enabling the yucky frame limiter might fix it.
But for me I just started it up and my comp went into a restart :\
Considering ATi is supposed to have worked closely with rockstar games to ensure compatablility you would of thought such a problem would not come up.
Besides Vice city was on newsgroups a week before they released the 3.4 cats so there really is no excuse for them to have at least tested some version of GTA vice city on the 3.4 cats IMO.
Sloppy testing, I guess thats why they are recruiting more testers.

What? A driver problem on an ATI card? Can't be. ATI, as we all know, is perfect! I think the problem lies somewhere between your computer and your chair.
But seriously, join the club of people with high end cards who are having problems with this game. Us FX owners have to use the 43.45 drivers or else we get artifacts as if our cards have been overclocked.
Great job, Rockstar. I plunked down some solid coin on this game and I can't even play it unless I use old, crappy drivers. I'm having more trouble with this game than I did with GTA3.
But a hearty thumbs up to the Catalyst beta testing crew. Top notch job there fellas! :p ;)

1. You can turn ON framelimiter to clear that up.
2. Try deleting the C:\My Documents\GTA Vice City User Files\gta_vc.set file (That's under win98se, under XP it's where ever the hell XP hides it's "My Documents" folder. You'll have to re-enter your video, audio, & control settings...but it used to clear up that kind of problem in the old GTA3 when changing drivers.
Please let me know if #2 fixes it, I can't test it out since I ain't got any ATi cards lying around. :(

hrm, worked great for all the beta testers when we were testing the 7.88s - no problems at all. Well, some minor rendering things whn you turn AA on, but nothing like that. Frame limiter seems to fix things up...

Wow, thx Dig! I had loaded the 3.4s and started VC and it was totally unreadable. I performed your delete trick and lo and behold a quick reconfig in-game and all was well.

the exact same issue exists on all GeforceFX platforms as well.
they need to fix that crap! whats unnerving is trying to find any kind of *.ini file or Configuration file that would allow you tweak the game's graphics settings at all! ive found files for this game in four different locations across my system! and none of them are for configuration! i dont even know where it keeps the resolution settings!
crappy build.
they also built the new game on the same complete crap sound code as before (Miles2D/3D is third-party, plug-in sound code. horribly buggy and the root cause of all UnhandledException Errors in all games that use it including Tribes2, Hitman2, etc.)
the FrameLimiter fix doesnt work, but the forums at http://gtaforums.com claim that the issue is in the sampling enhancement of both ATI and FX - they claim that disabling IntelliSample (or the ATi equivalent) can remedy the issue. dunno dunno.

a new patch was released this morning by rockstar games to fix this issue.
now to find the accompanying no-cd patch.
im so happy they fixed this that im almost tempted to actually go out and pay for the damn thing.
BK your fix was awesome! it didnt fix the polygon issue that seams to still crop up after about 5 minutes for me, but the quality went waaay up! theres no advanced graphical settings and for some reason the game sets itself to like the lowest detail and texture detail settings for me. but replacing that file snapped it out of it. i was playing the first level all week thinking 'whats the big deal, this game looks like ass even at 1600x1200/4xS FSAA/ 4xAF!!
thank u sir. you know nobody even mentioned that in the actual GTAforums...u da man.
