at least according to this article (http://www.techpowerup.com/70202/Google_Plans_a_Web-browser_To_be_called_Google_Chrome.html)
Google Plans a Web-browser, To be called Google Chrome
Google plans to launch its very own web-browser software in competition to Microsoft Internet Explorer called Google Chrome. The new browser according to entries at the official Google blog suggest the driving force behind the browser is to provide value-added features to its users, at the same time, help drive innovation on the web. It is claimed that the browser is tailored to give the most out of common tasks on the internet as a web-browser has become a very significant component of the connected PC.
The browser designed to be streamlined and simple for you to accomplish tasks quickly and easily by offering enhanced address-bar features and other elements that are very different from those on other browsers. The product will be open-source. Says the blog post "To most people, it isn't the browser that matters. It's only a tool to run the important stuff -- the pages, sites and applications that make up the web. Like the classic Google homepage, Google Chrome is clean and fast. It gets out of your way and gets you where you want to go."
Google released a comic book explaining its design approach towards the web-browser, it can be read here. Under the hood, Google claims the browser to have what it takes to run complex web-applications any by keeping each browser tab in its "sandbox", the probability of a web-application crash on one tab affecting other tabs is eradicated. A beta version of this browser software would be released in over 100 countries tomorrow, September the 2nd.

More news about the Google Chrome from PC World (http://blogs.pcworld.com/staffblog/archives/007645.html) including some sreenshots and Google Chrome comic book.
As off now the download is still not available. I usually don't bother with many betas but this one I'm going give a try.
EDIT
Good read at tgdaily (http://www.tgdaily.com/html_tmp/content-view-39138-118.html) about Google removing cached page of Chrome download.
I did try to Google the Chrome browser and all pages by google returned to Google search also no cached pages.
I'm looking forward to trying it out, thanks for posting it.

It is extremely fast on AJAX heavy sites, it has a compiler (VM) for Javascript.

Intuitive, very simple compared to IE or FF - did I mention fast?
Edit: doesn't seem to be any built in pop up blocker? or am I blind?

There are some great features:
- integrated URL and search bar with pretty useful hints
- drag&drop of tabs outside main window
- visual history after you repopen the browser
- each tab is run under independent thread, so crash of one tab does NOT crash whole browser (altough IE8 Beta 2 had that first)
- Javascript compiler (VM)
Missing?
- plugins (mouse gestures, AdBLock, etc.)
I think I have a new default browser. It will see full usage, as in anything I'm concerned about security for, after it's no longer beta and needed/wanted plugins are available.
This is sweet. I don't like the shortcut though, makes me want lifesavers. :p

Yeah. Have fun with that.

I saw the same thing. Have we accepted similar terms on our other browsers?

There's nothing i could see really akin to it in FF, haven't re-read IE's because I hardly use it. I'm ok with it really, unless I want to start using it for secure transactions or the like. In which case that will be a show stopper for me.

I like the browser, but lack of Adblock and Roboform will make it hard for me to adopt it.
I'm curious, google dumps cash into Firefox development, I thought that was "their" browser already.

I just googled "google funding firefox" and that was one of the links that popped, 57M+ a year.
Yeah. Have fun with that.
Peacin' out for sure.
Opera and IE8 do it for me.
Never was a fan of firefox.

Maybe Google just mean this little thing here:

This setting is on by default, I turned it off right after install.
Posting from Chrome BTW :)

I agree it's faster than Firefox and IE but i do miss many options from Firefox. Well it's beta so maybe they improve on it with feedback.
