I absolutely love little graphic demos and Machinimas. IMO they are a form of art, I collect them and must have over a hundred by now. It's amazing what people can do with 4k and 6m demos. My favorites by far are; Into The Pink, Lifeforce and debris.
They have all the entries over at that hellhole guru3d. Some of these are better than looking than Vantage.

Thanks for those links, I recently downloaded all of the good Fr demos (08,19,25,41), didn't know about those others :D

The compression, such as in fr.041, is simply incredible!

Lifeforce is beautiful and well done, both visually and musically, and I was quite impressed when I first saw it. One of my all-time favourite modern demo would be 1995 by Kewlers & MFX (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=25783). It has this special old-skool feel while still being new and fresh -- and with striking soundtrack.

Most of these modern demos look and sound great, but they emphasise in design and style. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing. The thing is that demos are no longer about demonstrating programmers' exceptional skills to produce effective code -- modern hardware (with hardware 3D acceleration and far too much computing power) makes sure of that. Back in good old days demos used to push the limits of the hardware. While being a recent prod, just take a look at Impossiblator by PwP (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=7663). Now that's a demo!-)
