View Full Version : Which Crysis config do you prefer?
I was DX9 as well, not rygels textures but in 64bit mode. I just can 64bit because I can, is there any reason to go 32bit?

a few extra FPS here and there in 32 bit. Again, why, I'm not sure. Only guess I have is incredibly poor coding...same reason why a core quad extreme doesn't net but a couple extra FPS as a budget core 2 duo.

WTF fastponycar, those result doesn't match mine at all. I really want them to though because I'd love to have 38FPS average with a config that looks so relatively good (would look 10x better without the damn distance blur though.. any idea how to switch that off?). Can you give me a link to that benchmark program, then I'll reinstall Crysis to be safe, then run a few benchmarks myself! :)
I think that distant blur your seeing is either overdone hdr, our something with the TOD.
r_depthoffield=2 will blur distant terrain slightly, most like that effect though as its pretty subtle, try setting it 1 you will have sharper textures. Also to much hdr will blur as well, so try a lower value.
Here is a compare of dof.

Can someone take a few more pics of CCC's config? I dont believe it looks that bad as in the first shot posted here. It looks to lit and yellow, kinda cartoonish...
So 32bit is faster than 64bit with no drawbacks? Didn't remember that fact back from release.. gonna benchmark again soon then..

I put Xconfig 1.3 on last night. Very nice. I like it's TOD settings MUCH more than CCC's. It's not all orange and yellow though like Jman's screenshot would lead you to believe ??

Am also interested in Xconfig.. but it looked so damn yellow and overexposed from the pictures. But if you say its not, so then i'll have it a go.
Red, is the CCC really that lit and cartoonish as jman's picture?

no it looked fairly normal. The xconfig definately has the most noticable TOD modifications but they're VERY good IMO.
I made a few tweaks to the actual config file such as turning POM off but overall, everything about the mod is very very good. It draws more vegetation and objects than the MSTR config does so it's a bit slower (avg 32 fps benchmark) but the TOD settings alone are worth the price of admission.

okay, what are you saying my screenshots are lies? lol go into the Crysis folder and inject his TOD. I know when i first installed the mod the tod didn't install had to manually do it.
I can assure you it looks that way, but you can believe what you want.
xconfig highest lvl:

Running a modified (DOF=0 and others) Xconfig here (1.3) and it looked way better then CCC (old one)
But I started editing en modifying myself to my personal needs. Kudo's to jmanrob (it's the only real no compromise setting)

I didn't install the highest level. I did the next to highest level. Is there something different between the two that would make them look different? Different TOD settings for each one?
Just ran a benchmark on a 100% freshly installed Crysis + officials patches + Mster Config 3.01, this is the result:

wtf... I guess the comma is on the wrong place, because from what I saw throughout the benchmark, around 21-24 FPS was about average :(

Here's what Xconfig (with the correct TOD batch file injected) looks like for me.

Gaco, Man I got no clue what's up with yours... what drivers are you using? I've got the 177.89 forceware drivers right now from guru3d.
That's exactly what Xconfig looks to me as well, it's actually very beautiful and well rounded. Perhaps a little bit dark at times and the sky sometimes have too much exposure/bloom, but it's actually very good for the most part. Fastponycar I can see you you get around 30 FPS with Xconfig (at next-highest install setting). That's just about the same as well, so we have the same performance with that config. It's really weird we don't have the same with Mster's config then...
BTW how do you check which driver version is installed?

Well, I installed them about 2 days ago so it's still sitting on my desktop. Otherwise, right click on the desktop and go to nvidia control panel, advanced view (if it asks) then go to help and finally system information and it'll say there.
175.19 it appears.. what kind of weird drivers are that, I thought it was the latest official.. I wonder if vista installed some in between when I cleaned last drivers or something. Anyway I just get clearly better performance with Xconfig. I get 28-30 FPS most of the time while Mster's give me 22-25 FPS most of the time. Looking only at the visuals I'm not sure when I prefer actually...

go to www.guru3d.com and hit the downloads sections and find the vista 64 drivers area for the nvidia cards and you'll see the new ones there.
I have now. Gained 1-2 FPS perhaps, but nothing like 38 FPS, that's is insanely high from all I've been trying of configs and settings in general. Still haven't found a config where I think "there, that's perfect" (water in Mster's still looks so weird), which is kinda sad :(
Gonna need to do a bit more testing I guess.. it's now between Extreme Mod, Xconfig and Mster's.
Did you change your personal preference btw?
Meh I think I'm settling on Mster's config, not because of performance (I do get 25 FPS most of the time, 30 max) but because it offered the overall best visuals IMO. I do hope that he will eventually fix the bit too dark night with too unrealistic sky w. ugly clouds/oversaturated night colors/make water a little bit more still/add a bit of gloominess to the alien levels, it'd be perfect.
Now going for rygel's textures + Mster's config 3.01 quality for second playthrough. Mster's quality config doesn't include any POM lines though. Does it mean it's on or off per default?
Doesn't it look better with no POM and 8xAF using rygels textures than POM enabled and 0xAF? And I take that the only way to enable AF is through nvidia control panel?
In short: POM vs. AF, who wins?? :D

In the heavily pebbled area there before you get to the iced' boat, flipping between pom on and off only changed 2 fps.. it sort of varies where it will benefit and where it won't. Some places I noticed up to 6 or 7 extra fps.

haha just wait until Crysis Warhead is out in a few days !!
then there will be even MORE configs to play with ! :D
Ok.. well actually I meant more in terms of visuals than performance, which is better, POM or AF when you can't have both? I remember POM being some 3D-effect on 2D textures but I don't remember the extend of their use..? What do you prioritize?
BTW I dropped Mster's config. I simply can't stand the night scenes, and unfortunately that means a lot to me. Especially since I'm going to be playing it with a good friend soon, and it's a rather bad impression to get of Crysis if you see the first nightscene in Mster's config. I'm going for either the more naturally looking Xconfig (and the yellow/orange tint you see in Jmanrob's pictures isn't there, I guess he's using an old version) or the most natural Xtreme config now.

The harbor assault at night looks incredible with the xconfig and it's TOD.
The SSAO and HDR settings can make or break a configuration, especially at night or in dark areas.
If you want more peformance, turn off POM. That's what I do. It doesn't make any visual impact to me personally, especially considering a lot of Rygel's textures have sort of this pseudo POM texture trickery going on so they APPEAR 3d but upon closer in spection it's just textures done a certain way.
Agreed the level "assault" looks incredible and is a big improvement over the vanilla one, it's the first level I'm very unsatisfied with and the unnaturally lively water, which especially looks unrealistic and silly at shallow waters though incredible at longer distances. It should just be calmed down a little bit, the first night scene brighten up a bit, the clouds in the first free-fall sequence fixed from it's current 8-bit color look and it's much better.
BTW we ended up playing Mster's config and we both agreed it looked undoubtly the best overall, I just wanted him to be able to see anything in the very first level of gameplay, so we started out with Xconfig which also gave a beautiful vanilla sky sunrise. Mster's sunrise is also incredible.
I'm gonna play with POM off since I can feel the difference in framerate actually. Or I'm pretty sure I can, didn't have FRAPS on in the level where I compared with and without.
Also I finally figured out why you had 38 FPS when I had 28. We simply misunderstood eachother as you talked about the performance config, I used the quality :)
So in the end I found my preferred Crysis config: Mster's config 3.01 (quality) + rygels textures of course. Crysis has never looked any better :)
