The GforceFX 5200 Ulta IS NOT REALLY THAT BAD afterall. I just got my EVGA GforceFX 5200 ULTRA and everything is playable and that is as 1024 X 768 ( I have a Viewsonic LCD - 1024 X768 is the native resolution) .
I read all the benchmark and reviews and everyone is saying that the card is not worth it. In my experience is is not the fastest but it is not also the slowest. It is a pretty good budget card. With the new Detonator FX, it gave it a little help.

The FX5200ULTRA isn't a bad performer, I think most feel the FX5200-non-ultra is crap, however.

Only problem I jave w/ the FX5200ULTRA is the price. There are far better performaing cards for the same amount, or in many cases, much less money:)

Pesos?:bleh:

It performs roughly less tha a Ti4200, which can be had for considerably less. For that price range, I'd spend the extra $10 doallrs for an R9500PRO, which is another league alltogether. (http://www.gameve.com/store/gameve_viewitem.asp?idproduct=1006&showit=1)

The FX5200 is a decent performer, but not in the same league as other cards in the same price range,

Enjoy though, it's still powerfull enough to give some good frames:)

Nice to see someone give it a good review.
Is it TRUE DX9?

It might perform less than a GF4 TI BUT....BUTBUTBUT
if it supports the extra bits and bobs of DX9, and gives decent enough frame rates @ 1024x768 (I have a 15" LCD too :)

Then its gotta be worth it.

I see the point being made that it has to be ULTRA.....

I will keep my options open, As I will be getting a new card to cope with HALF LIFE 2 (drool drool but must make sure I install the pc system in the W.C. for the scary bits).

Great to hear the drivers had an impact as well.

it should be a good card with the latest FX drivers they should really boost things up...
but still i think for this price a 9500pro is way better...
if you could get the ultra for 180-190$ (the new ones ) that would be a steal...

I had the ATI 9500 PRO at one time and it only lasted on my computer for a week. Fast crad but their drivers still needs a lot of polishing. Before that I also tried the 9000 PRO and same problem, good thing NEWEGG let me returned the card for credit.
I don't need the fastest card but I need a stable card and driver.
I am sticking with Nvidia for now. When the 5900 comes out, then I'll go for it. I'll put the 5200 ULTRA on my other system.

it is because the performance of the mainstream cards of Nvidia
is very low in syntetic benchmarks like 3dmark2003.
THis is just *One* example of a gamer that was misleaded by websites
reviews ,when they focus too much in syntetic benchamrks.
it is very sad ,because there are THousands of gamers ,
outhere that doenst know of site like this , and buy video cards
just because they see in the back of the BOx of the card ,great numbers
in syntetic benchmarks .. that are very easily to hack.. :)

so buy better the card which performance is great in the
games *you* want to play. and ignore the opinions of reviewers..

On ETG server and some of them just upgraded computers from P3 600mhz, GF2 MX stuff to AXP 2600s and GFFX 5200 128 meg cards (Ones for $99 bucks at best buy).

Now everyone says the 5200 sucks, and it may not be fastest, but these guys love them :) Not a lot of money and coupled with a AXP 2600 I am sure they are way way faster than a p3 600 mhz and GF2 MX :)

I know, a GF3 might be faster, but whatever. The guys I talk to who bought the video cards are very happy with them.

I had a geforcefx5200 64 megs and I was getting better performance with my geforce4 mx440 and ti200 in everything, 3dmark, quake3 and ut2003, also the fx5200 would lock in 3dmark 2003 but the others completed it
