I grabbed my copy. Was running the beta for close to a month and I was impressed with its memory usage and quick scans. If you're a previous customer, sign into your My Norton Account and go to Special offers where you'll find it close to 40% off.

Norton is a piece of ****. Same with McAfee and everything else that charges a ton for there crappy software. I use a combination of some free stuff and I haven't had any problems in the three years since I have started using them.

It used to be back in 2004. It's fantastic now.

I'd never pay for anti-virus protection on a home PC, especially not a PC I use for gaming.

The more you pay for stuff like this, the more bloated and irritating it is.

AVG free is a great piece of free software, but I don't even have that running on my main PC. Its installed but I only use it to scan a questionable looking file once in a while. When I do run system scans (very rarely) I never come up with anything.

The anti-virus and anti-spyware software industry is a scam IMO. :o

I'll second that Norton and Symantec are pieces of s***. They rarely pick up viruses with our clients.

I'm amazed at how many people still run Norton, but its not for me sorry. I used it a long time ago when I got a free year long subscription but with the advent of such great FREE av software and system security tools, I won't be gong back.

norton made huge changes starting in 07, 08 was better. 09 is even better.

for those that used it long time ago, your opinion doesn't really matter that much anymore. programs changed, you can't compared old versions to new.

I admit old norton was horrible.

For reals CaptN?

I use Avast as it's light and scans Outlook. Which is my main concern, emails. Other than that I'll scan the odd file I've found from torrent or the like, especially NO-CD patches.

Wow Norton Internet Security 2009 for $49.99 special offer? That £28 which is very good deal cheaper than buy the retail package for £50.

I use Norton Internet Security 2008 at the moment on 3 PCs, it is great program and think I will upgrade to 2009 next month.

Here is anti-virus software performance testing report showed Norton Internet Security 2009 used the lowest memory usage, fastest scan speed and PC boot time, huge improvements over Norton Internet Security 2008.

I just scanned my system for the first time in about a year and got nothing.

And I'm online probably 90% of the time that I'm awake...

Yeah Corp edition is good. Though I still found it's service would eat up CPU every now and again. ::(:

Currently I use Avira cause im a cheap bastered... but when I get some extra cash I will pickup kaspersky. I use avira cause its deascent, good detection, and isn't a resource hog. I also picked it over AVG because AVG will kick me out of WoW when it updates which is really bad. Avira does have a full pop up ad of itself on updates but I can manualy trigger updates when I want, something I couldnt do on avg.

As for norton, Ive heard many good things about the 09 edition, and about how they finally got it down to a sleek and sexy piece of code..HOWEVER having a sweet program does no good if their virus detection list is as crappy as it was the past several years.

i used to love norton, it was great, but then it started to get really bloated lots of services at the start up /etc...i am tempted to try again...if people are saying they have improved it...i wouldn't mind giving a beta try...

That's because people like you don't download "FREE 3D SCREENSAVERS" off the interwebz.

99% of the US population, when questioned, claimed they think FREE 3D SCREENSAVERS are "really cool!"

I just need it for the occasional virus scanning for torrents and the firewall since Windows firewall is annoying with its pop-ups.

Symantec Blah! Endpoint Blah ! always crap always will be.

Nod32 proper antivirus!.

crainger

NOD32 is ok, but it's detection rate has fallen sharply in recent years. Plus the new Security Suite is a real resource hog.
