I have 5 entries for this in add/remove programs.Can I safely remove the older versions and just keep the newest??

i also wonder this sometime i have 2 C?? 2005 none 2008 if there even is one

All of mine are 2005 with the exception of 1 which is 2008,so yes there is a 2008 release.

you can safely uninstall previous versions and leave lastest version installed.

so why is this needed? for games?

i know 3Dm06 installs 2005 verison i think also vantage and a few games but other than that si there any other useful area?

some games need it, some programs need it. i know nero always forces to install version 2005.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of the installs just wrote over the old files. Just install them all, then install the newest if your worried.
