GS: Are there any other PC-specific features you can tell us about in Call of Duty: World at War?

CS: Our goal is to bring the same game experience to multiple platforms, and I think we are hitting our mark. That said, my team is very consciously making a PC title with a focus on all the things we love about PC gaming. COD:WAW looks fantastic in higher PC resolutions than you can get on a console. It plays great on high-end rigs, but we've optimized for more-modest gear, too. The PC version is more configurable with respect to controls, graphics, and performance options. And support for mods--not just multiplayer but co-op mods too!

GS: So far, Call of Duty: World at War appears to be a graphically intense game. What system requirements will PC gamers need to jump into the fray?

CS: My team worked closely with hardware vendors such as Intel and Nvidia to optimize for various hardware configurations available on PC. This was especially important as we are really pushing the limits of the engine. So we were able to achieve this graphical intensity with only a modest bump in the minimum requirements from COD4:

Processor: AMD 64 3200+/Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz or better

Memory: 8 GB free hard-drive space, 512MB RAM (XP)/1GB RAM (Vista)

Graphics: Shader 3.0 or better, 256MB Nvidia GeForce 6600GT/ATI Radeon 1600XT or better

What nekro said...we get to fight J-pan this time. If you recall it was the MoH series that took us to the Pacific, not CoD, even though they ARE the original MoH team :)

IIRC, it was BF1942 that we fought the Japanese? I distinctly remember that island battle.

From my notes taken during the PC summit visit at Treyarch studios (July 08)

PC
- Will scale well with Quad core processors
- ? on SLI performance ( asked if it would take advantage of SLI better then COD4. They did not have an answer for me at that time)
- Runs well on average. PCs Just like COD4
- DX9 only //no DX10 for now
- Linux servers shortly after releases
- Anti cheat out of the box (if you can call PB worthwhile anti-cheat)
- no info at time regarding http redirect.

They where not running state of the art boxes but upper level Dells (all studios run XPS style Dells - EA/Actvision/IW and now Treyarch) and they where driving a 30" display which looked good-very good. Most of what they showed us where in their main conf room via projector and an xbox360 - looked ok.

However they made it a point to show us at least one of the dev's office and how well it ran on a PC. We also saw their QA testing on PC/360s but they had smaller displays and we could not tell what type of boxes they where using.

My main point was to let everyone know that they where working on Quad core support for this game.

IW did a great job with CoD4 for optimization...including multi-gpu so i say if u can run cod4...running cod5 shouldn't be a problem.

cod 4 was a great running engine I'll admit that. No need to change the state of play.

Too bad it's WW2

He's upset. He didn't know that the quote came out of the developer's mouth. I love the fact that the developer calls himself a PC gamer at heart.:D

wow, that is very mature. what do you expect, if you want better performance you need to upgrade. He needs a LOT more than a mere processor, though. Beefier PSU, beefier graphics card and a Core2 Quad. Pretty much mandatory hardware for today's games.

c2quad is NOT mandatory. Only a decent intel c2duo is needed. Hardly any games take advantage of 4 cores let alone most of 2 cores...

One wonders if Treyarch are such huge PC gamers why CoD3 was not released on PC. Is Quantum of Solace coming to PC? If not then throw that in with that comment as well.

Still, glad to see it's coming, and I will most likely get the PC version.

Treyarch does not have the say in it.. It's all Activisoins call.

Back in June of 07, right before COD4. I was talking to Grant Collier of IW at the COD 4 summit. He said he wanted to make COD2 a modern day shooter but Activision wanted to hear nothing of it and wanted another WWII (thank you Activision!).

However now that IW has a bit more pull shall we say with their huge success of the COD franchise, they have more say in where it goes. They still have to answer to their bosses over at Activisoin but now Act. is more willing to lt them do what they want.

The big thing for us PCers, is we will get an MP demo before the game ships. I would hope that in itself should mean they have very high hopes for their work (look at all the other games that had a very secretive MP side all the way up to release. Look at MOH:Airborne's MP as an example.
