View Full Version : internet works, web does not

Reinstalled notebook with Vista Ultimate x64 last night. Everything worked well, till last restart. Now internet works (Wifi does have IP address assigned via DHCP, I can ping my router, and I can even ping www.nvnews.net by name, tracert works), but http does not work in any browser (IE, Opera, Firefox), without showing any reasonable error at all. It looks like HTTP connections are immediately refused by ... something. Even when I enter IP address of my router into the browser, it does not work.

What went wrong?

No antivirus SW installed, nothing that should interfere with network, just basic Vista firewall (tried switching that off, no change).. Strangely, PING (even using domain name) and DNS resolution works fine as described above.

// edit: this does NOT help either:

I made it work :-) Exported this key from other PC and imported it on notebook:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\WinSock2]

Seems like Winsock2 database was corrupted.

just delete the 2 socks in registry and reboot and good to go or run winsock fix.

Bigman don't post the solution when it's already given. Also fix the sig. Too big.
