Not exactly sure why everyone thinks 7 is coming sooooooooooooo soon after Vista

Looks like a lot of xp fanboys had trouble letting go of their blankies after 5 years.

Agreed. Those that keep saying Vista sucks are going to be seriously disappointed by Windows 7. It's Vista 2. Vista is just a stop-gap to get peopled moved over to this new generation of Windows.

Agreed.

95-->98 = 3 years
98-->ME = 2 years
ME-->XP = 1 year
XP-->Vista = 5 years
Vista-->Windows 7 = ??? (3 years if late 2009, 4 years if late 2010, as originally planned)

XP was an anomaly.

Your numbers are a bit off- XP was actually introduced late '01, and Vista was in late '06... that would make it closer to 5 years that XP was out, if you keep OEM in mind.

Fixed, and thanks. I knew it was 5 years, as stated in a previous post, but then as I was doing those numbers, something was off. I was thinking "no way ME was only out a year before XP," but I guess that's the case.

* Support for tessellation, which blurs the line between super high quality pre-rendered scenes and scenes rendered in real-time, allowing game developers to refine models to be smoother and more attractive when seen up close

Hot!

Can't wait :D

Hey, you guys forgot about Windows 2000 - XP that was like 1-2 years if I remember right.
Well I will be happy to get rid of Vista :headexplode:.

Agree. Never underestimate the stupidity of the general public.

Something like 3 of out of 4 people don't know anything about computers other than launching "the internet" and checking email. I doubt they even know what Firefox is.

Vista is a stable OS no doubt, but some of the programs people install are just garbage and then complain when it doesn't work with Vista.

I'll be getting Windows 7 and putting my Vista on my mom's computer. XP no more.

Screw that. I just bought an OS last year. Windows 7 can wait unless they're going to upgrade me for free. :p

That will function as a solid gaming OS, being (mostly) compatible with the latest hardware (SLi, CrossFire, etc)?

No... I didn't think so. ;)

Negative. I've yet to get my SLi'd 8800GTSs running right, and this rig with dual 9600GTs is the same story.

For a high-end enthusiast rig running (literally) the latest hardware, more than likely they'll experience some issues. Be it drivers for the video cards, or for their top-end Creative X-Fi sound card.

Furthermore, right now I can't really run any kind of update from within X as it gives me an error message. And all I did was leave the computer alone- and some how Ubuntu still managed to bork itself. :lol:

I'll probably just do a fresh install, and then sit through the entire dl + install of the 280-some-odd updates to make sure nothing goes wrong again.
