Sorry nVidia, but you have lost a long time customer.
I've used nVidia hardware ever since the first TNT was released, but two days ago I decided enough waiting was enough and purchased a 9800 Pro.
I've been looking to upgrade for 6 months and had been patiently waiting for nVidia to release the NV30. To be frank, I was very dissapointed with how that card turned out.
OK, so I decide to wait for NV35 which seemed fairly close to release, because surely nVidia would improve upon AA quality.
Well quess what, they did nothing at all to their rather poor quality AA modes.
Enter the 9800 Pro, I can't remember being as impressed with a single piece of harware as this card. I did have a 9700 previously that I ended up returning due to some driver bugs, but ATI has done a great job since then improving upon them.
So far my 9800 Pro has handled everything I have thrown at it supremely, image quality and especially AA quality is excellent.
Cudos to ATI, what a great product they have with the 9800 Pro!

I am happy for you but this is what may be considered 'asking for it'

see rob hague's thread... he presented a logical argument and he still got trolled to an extent...

I can just hope this thread stays clean :(

in the meantime... enjoy your product :)

Bah... NVIDIA will be back again someday. I know you meant it as a joke Rob but we got to assume that someday (probably sooner than later) Nvidia will get their act together both hardware-wise and IQ-wise (AA)....uh....right?

Enjoy the 9800Pro, I'd give my eye-teeth for one - assuming I have eye-teeth.

Unfortunatley no one can be told what the Radeon is, you have to see it for yourself. ;)

No, no...that doesn't do it the proper justice.

You have to experience the Radeon to understand.

(Really, I'm being serious! The 9500/9700's are just that good! :D )

Well, I just have to say that you were deluding yourself here. To put it simply, the only realistic hope for significant improvement in the AA modes was with a new architecture. They should have been improved for the NV30, but they werent, so now we must hope that the NV40 improves the AA modes.

i have an ATI 9500pro(mod) after being a nvidia user for two years prior to that i am decently happy with the card.

But Nvidias AA on my Geforece MX420AGP was 100x better...

Nvidias Quincux(4x?) looked a hell of a lot better than ati's 6x AA..

WTF is quincux anyway? it was awesome...I doubt that the AA has gone downhill since the MX420 card:rolleyes:

Hey I liked Quincux AA myself, except on my GeForce3. However I like ATI's FSAA modes better. Ever since I know I could use AA on my video cards I refuse to play without it. That's why I'll be going back to ATI this round. The FX 5800 was a nice toy to play with, but I really missed the AA on my modded 9500.

FSAA was one of my main reasons for switching too. 4X on ATI looks as good as 6X on nVidia, something to consider when comparing FSAA benchmarks. Aliasing has always urked me. When bilinear filtering was introduced, my first thought was "okay, I don't see squares in the textures anymore, but I still see them on the edges of polygons". I remember seeing Unreal for the first time in 1024x768 on a friends Voodoo 2 SLI rig and my first thought being "I *still* see pixels". Jaggies are the one remaining artifact that makes realtime graphics look so much different from pre-rendered CGI, nVidia seems in no rush to kill them off.

Huh?? I guess I missed the bit where someone flipped out about thier country being insulted.

In my initial post I was just enquiring if you were really a beta tester for half life 2 and if you serious about your thoughts on the MX420.

I don't see why a comment like yours should have come into it.

I am no respector of either ATI and Nvidia. The way I see it is all I want is AA, AF, IQ, and the latest features at the time I buy the card. So when it was time to upgrade my video card I chose the 9700 Pro because it had everything I mentioned and Nvidia only had the TI4600 at the time. Now that the NV30 and NV35(soon) are here I am still glad that I bought the 9700 Pro, because the NV30 and NV35 don't have very good AA and IQ. But if when I buy another video card and Nvidia has the better AA, AF, IQ and the latest features I will buy the Nvidia. So I don't care what company makes the card.
