I've been offered two graphics cards:
- a Geforce 2 MX 400 (if not mistaken)
- ATI Radeon 7000 chipset (made by Saphire)

Both are almost the same price.
Any words of advise?

Both are quite slow, but the GF2 MX seems to be a little faster if the other is the 7000. If it's 7200, then the GF2 MX is slower. The GF4 MX is quite faster than the other two.

Check here (http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20021218/vgacharts-06.html) and here (http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20021218/vgacharts-05.html) for comparison.

BTW, this goes to General Hardware. :)

according to 3dmark2k1, here is what my scores WOULD be if I had the following video cards installed:

(current)................10214
GF4TI-4200.............9371
GF4MX-460.............5929
GF4MX-440.............5565
GF4MX-420.............4172
GF2MX-400.............2937
Radeon 7000/VE.......2062

therefore between your choices, get the GF4MX. But if you can afford to, get a GF4TI card instead because the performance difference is nearly doubled. They start around $100us
