Ok, haven't really payed attention to HDTVs for very long time.

i'm looking for something around 37-47 inch with HDMI 1080p and about $1200 tops.

I might be changing my TV around Thanksgiving.

I picked up my 1080p 42" viewsonic whatever LCD for $600 on ebay brand new, it was a pretty good deal

Just wait till black friday, I'm sure you'll be able to find something priced very low at CC or BB.

Macmall has some decent prices... I have been thinking about picking one up but I have a feeling that prices will continue to fall.

I got a Philips 47PFL9732D/37 at Costco around 6 months ago for $1400. If I had to buy another one, I would look for a similar deal. I don't think they still have them.

This one (http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00140C8OG/ref=dp_olp_2) is similar, I am happy with the picture quality.

No would not have a clue as to where you could see one in Chicago, like I said I found it a Costco one day. In fact they had sold out and I got he display model. Which I normally wouldn't do but it was such a good deal. I haven't seen them in there since.

Phillips has also updated the firmware twice since I bought it, so I guess that is a good thing about them. I have a friend in Tampa who works for them and is always going on about how they are often overlooked for Sony, and Toshiba. I will email him and see if he can find out somewhere in Chicago to check them out.

You might be better off browsing some dedicated AV forums ;)

Just wanted to point out that the newegg link you posted isn't 120hz. If I didn't watch sports I would not care, but being able to turn it on during football made is great.

The motion blur is just too much without it, so you may want to consider that.

Samsung does make some great HDTVs, especially latest ones. I really like their contrast ratios (even if it's dynamic, it can be turned off)... they can produce some deepest black than anything else in the market.

Series 9 is impressive with 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

yeah, but those are over 3,000.

will not spend that much on something that will be obsolete in 2 years

I am running out to buy the Sony KDL-46Z4100B tomorrow. It's normally $2699cdn and I found it on sale for $1999.
I was going to buy the W series (one series lower) which is $2199 for a 46" but I accidentally found the Z on sale at store I stopped in at by fluke. I wasn't going to even look there because they are normally more expensive than BB and stores like that, but they have one hell of a managers special on the 46" Z.

MmMmMm 46" of Bravia goodness. :headexplode:

I ended up getting a 46" Panasonic TH-46PZ80U 1080P plasma for $1500CDN and I love it.
I have watched regular cable, HD cable, Blu-ray and played PS3 games. Normal 4:3 cable is tolerable, but that is normal for an HDTV. Everything else looks awesome with no motion blur whatsoever. :)

PS3 games and Blu-ray movie kick ass.

It also has the added feature of automatically adjusting the backlight depending on what's being viewed. I was watching a hockey game in HD last night and it dims so that you are not blinded by the white ice.

I've had a 46" Samsung DLP for close to 3 years now and its still going strong. Very awesome picture, still comparable to some of the new tv's coming out, although not quite as good. Samsung makes great LCD's as well, we have a few of those in the house also.

Here are two I'd recommend:

40" (http://nvnews.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=63744978/st=product_tab)

46" (http://nvnews.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=63807949/search=samsung%20lcd/st=product/sv=title)

buy only a lcd or plasma that does 24P i.e when you run a blu-ray player at 1080p/24 or a hddvd player that is compatable

me self i would not touch samsung tv`s

The new Samsung 6 or 7 series LCD's are killer, as are the Sony Z or XBRs.

The Phylips sale (http://www.outlet.philips.com/b2c_redesign/b2c/productdetail.do?productguid=4328965C3ACA008E00000 000828BD47245D76F46ED1900DE00000000828BD4B4&productarea=4328965C3ACA008E00000000828BD472&scenario=catalog&shop=OUTLET#specs) for factory renewed LCDs doesn't look so great.

I did find only one 1080p LCD for $1200, let's say the price for 47" is not too bad but it has only 90-day limited warranty from Philips.

The specs are average for lower priced LCD but one thing surprised me and I can't understand why 1080p panel would only support 1366x768 max resolution in computer format.

Supported Display Resolution
Computer formats (resolution / refresh rate) : 640 x 480 / 60Hz, 800 x 600 / 60Hz, 1024 x 768 / 60Hz, 1366 x 768 / 60Hz
Video Formats (resolution / refresh rate) : 480i / 60Hz, 480p / 60Hz, 720p / 60Hz, 1080i / 60Hz, 1080p / 60Hz
