Found this link with some numbers:
http://diy.pconline.com.cn/cpu/reviews/0810/1438115_9.html

And the config used:
http://diy.pconline.com.cn/cpu/reviews/0810/1438115_6.html

It seems like it will need proper support from the developers, and a clock bump to perform better in the old titles. But again, this is not official, so, it's better to wait for the final reviews.

HaHa, it sure kicks ass in Vantage.

Gee intel, I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on new hardware anyways...Thanks intel!!!

Aside from synthetic benchmarks its mixed bag , not impressive at all :(

Not yet at least; nehalem is aimed at the professional market rather than gamers. Nehalem only shows its muscle in multi-threaded programs, and as we all know almost none of the games on the market right now make good use of multiple cores.

Here's an interesting article about cpu scaling with the 4870x2(shows that going from two to four cores only results in a minimal performance gain):

Nehalem is going to rule at h.264 software encoding...*drools*

Sweet. Looks like my CPU will continue to be good for at least a little while. :D

but it won't be faster than a gpu/cuda accelarated program like Badaboom. http://www.badaboomit.com/

Yeah, but i think that badaboom hasn't all the options that x264 has to control the quality, compatibility, ... of your encode.

But, x264 with CUDA support would be great :)

sweet, instead of i7 i think ill just go quad core in a few months :D

This is why I had no hesitations buying this quad. Nehalem will be great, but not for gaming or overclocking. In time with clockspeed ramps it will be worth it, if AMD don't make a comeback.

Just the simple fact that it finally allows to run SLI (and CF) on Intel boards makes this new platform great for gaming! So can't wait :D

I may want to upgrade to Nehalem, mainly for rendering. That'd save me ton of time getting most done with Max / Maya. :)

For highly multi-threaded software, this CPU is going to shine :)

I'm waiting for true 8 core CPU. Upgrade cycle is every new CPU with more cores. That's how i'm going to do it.
