AMD RV740 GPU 40nm tape-out finished, Nvidia targeting GT212 for 2009, says paper
http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20081224PB202.html

Tape-out of AMD's 40nm RV740 GPU is reported complete and the company will start mass production by the end of first quarter next year at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), according to a Chinese-language Commercial Times report.

In other news, Nvidia's 40nm GT212 GPU is expected to complete its tape-out at the beginning of 2009, and mass production is scheduled for the second quarter. Nvidia's next-generation GT216 and GT300 GPUs will also transition to a 40nm process in mid or late 2009, added the paper.

As resume:

GTX260"/GTX285/GTX295 -> January
GT212/GT216 -> Summer
GT300 -> late 2009 (DirectX 11)

Personally, i think that i will upgrade now (GTX 285), and if i survive to the 2009 global crisis, at the end of the year again (DX 11 + Windows 7).

If the gtx 285 can meet these criterias:

10% faster and 10c cooler than a gtx 280
183w TDP
Quiet fan

As a g92 user, then that seem to be something i would like to buy.

Any update on pricing info for the GTX285?

I think its gonna be around 400 euros or 400 USD.

A shop here in Holland has got a EVGA version listed @ €400,- already.

http://www.salland.eu/?redirect=@L3Byb2R1Y3QvNzc1ODMvZXZnYS1nZWZvcmNlLWd 0eC0yODUtMTAyNC1tYi1wY2ktZS0xNngtMDFnLXAzLTEyODEtY XIuaHRtbA==

EVGA is expensive here, so I think another brand will cost about €360,- a few weeks after the launch.

$ price = € price most of the times btw.

In Hong Kong

This will come as quite a surprise to many, as Gigabyte's first GeForce GTX 285 card has hit the retail market as of January 2nd, at least in Hong Kong.

The pricing from two separate shops are HK$3399 and HK$3200, which roughly equates to €296 and €314, or $439 USD and $412 USD.

The first report of sale on the interwebs has been from the HKEPC Hardware Marketplace and can be found here (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.hkepc.com%2F2178&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8) (Google translation).

Like always, it will be a 30-40% more expensive in Europe. 300E -> 400E. TOO EXPENSIVE !

CES to show Phenom II and Geforce GTX 295
Written by Fuad Abazovic

Happy new 2009

We've learned a while ago that upcoming Consumer Electronic Show (CES) will be the place of introduction of at least two new hot pieces of hardware.

Phenom II will be born at this show and it will be followed by immediate availability on Thursday, January 8th of this new year. AMD will launch Phenom II 940 at 3.0GHz Black Edition that will be completely multiplier unlocked and Phenom II 920 at 2.8GHz at lower price, with a locked multiplier.

Nvidia won't rest and the card that we've showed and previewed back in mid-December, the Geforce GTX 295 with two GT200b 55nm GPUs, will officially launch at this show and show be available at the time of launch. We expect to see many consumer like products and we are not aware of any revolutionary things from Intel, apart of a few notebook CPUs and energy efficient quad cores. Microsoft might be showing its Windows 7 beta, but this might very well happen behind closed doors.

As far as we know, ATI won’t show any new 40nm products and neither will Nvidia. It is simply too early. The show kicks off on Thursday and you can bet that we will be there to cover it.

The ENGTX285 Extreme looks very tempting for me, due to the nice bandwidth.
