Enjoy, these are the same that ATI will be releasing in the next few days/weeks.
Sweet many thanks for the links i'll give them a looky
I'm thinking I'll wait for the official release, anyone who would like to compare these to 8.10 RC2 please post findings here. :)

No problems with those drives, but didn't have any problem with RC2 either. Tested Portal and Half Life 2, Crysis Warhead and Quantum of Solace demo so far. Still must start a 3D app for core 1 to throttle down after booting on x2.
Control panel shows them as 8.10, so I also think those are the official drivers that will be released in a few days. Version is 8.541, D3D driver 7.14.10.0618, OpenGL driver 6.14.10.8086
What's the proper way to install these drivers over the old ones, including the Catalyst software?

I uninstalled Catalyst from control panel, rebooted and installed new. No need for drivercleaner, driversweeper (this one is known to cause problems with ATI) or similar clean programs.

OK great! Thank you.

I had the idle bug too after installing these, up to 524%, wow. After using the below link to lower my 2D memory clock to 300MHz I haven't seen it since. Been thru many boots and reboots with no problems now.:)

Thanks for the link!, I was interested in a lower gpu clock for 2D and this one will do the trick!

UGH, I'm starting to get very frustrated with the 4870X2...
With these drivers, I'm still getting a lot of flashing textures in Lord of the Rings Online. I've already had to disable AA completely in the game otherwise it locks up frequently (so why have the high end card if I can't do AA, I know). The Midgewater swamp area East of Combe is a place to really be annoyed by the flashing textures on the trees, it drives me nuts.
I've tried these drivers as well as 8.9, and I still see the flashing. Turning off the lighting features in the game seems to help but I don't want to keep gimping the graphics to get the darn card to work! Turning off Catalyst AI doesn't help so it would still be an issue for those with a 4870.
I'm so close to trying out a GTX 280 if I wasn't scared about getting one that overheats. I do have to say that overall I think the nVidia drivers are much better on the whole than ATI. However, I do feel that the 4870X2 is overall a better card than the 9800GX2 was.

I completely agree on that.
btw. Cat. 8.10 is not officially available.

The Catalyst 8.10 was released officially by ATI today. October 15, 2008

I didn't want to start new thread. Maybe LordJuanlo should fix the links. But the (unofficial) in the heading is also confusing.

I can edit my thread but not the title, so I will let it be. Anyway I will check beta 8.11.
I bet official 8.10 and "unofficial" are the same, I don't think ATI will WHQL 2 driver sets on the same month
jcossin, forget DX10 in LOTRO until Mines of Moria is released, it's full of problems since book 14 update

Yes they most likely are the same but for Window XP the download for the official driver CCC included is 34.8MB and that's all what's needed.
The file for other so called official (unofficial) driver is 160 MB.

Actually DX10 is fine for me and VERY nice looking so I can't give it up, I just have to run with AA off which isn't as nice looking as it could be with AA on!

I don't see anything wrong with that, all is important is the temperature which he forgot to mention.
I did try to duplicate the case as he is reporting.
When the overdrive is disabled so is the manual fan control even if checked so the fan goes into auto control.
Before I disabled the overdrive my temp was at around 45C with the fan speed set at 40%.
After disabling the overdrive the fan speed went to 1%, with the temperature slowly rising so was the auto fan speed.
In 2d the temp went to 70C with fan speed at 18%
For 3d I did try Fur bench the temp went to 86C and the fan speed to 38%.
Sorry to disappoint you Vasot02

Valuial didn't post at this forum and I'm not member at AMD forum so my reply was directly to your post.
It was you who forwarded the message without having any experience with ATI 4000 line or checking out any validity about that post.
Beside I know you as ATI basher so to me it's quite clear what the purpose of your post was.

Why are you so concerned about a stupid benchmark test? What matters is how it performs in games.
