View Full Version : Anti-matter being used in bunker busters
It's true. A little bird told me so. :bleh:
So when will we see some REAL anti-matter weapons?
I would be more impressed when we start realizing how man can benefit from such technology than building stupid weapons from it. I guess we haven't learned anything from nuclear technology. Damned Earth people.
Granted, weapons are good, but why is it always weapons before good use?

Cause 'splosions kick ass, of course.

I don't think they'd really be using anti-matter in a bunker buster. It would be ridiculously expensive, they'd be more likely to use a depleted uranium tip couple with some nice shaped charges that deliver a small tnd. All wrapped up in ribbon ;)

The problem they've run into with anti-matter is twofold
1) It's horribly expensive to make
2) It's horribly difficult to store, so far they've only been able to capture and store a few atoms of it for a few minutes.
Basically give it a few more years.

So what would be the payload like? I heard you can crater half the earth literally.

Yeah, considering they can make like one milligram of antimatter per month, I don't think it's in any bunker busters. ;)

I remember a NASA interview where it was said an ounce of the stuff could launch the shuttle.
As for what it does, it reacts with matter, totally. All that e=MC[2] stuff brough to reality. When it contacts "normal" matter the two annihilate one another leaving gamma radiation (just about as high on the EM scale as you can get), and a few subatomic particles.
