It's out here. I liked the first, but with so many games I've let this one slip.

For now.

Not out in Europe, at play.com release date is november 7th (28th on consoles, must be the only game that ships on PC first)

I've played the demo some times, and I think they got some problems with gameplay.

Basically, a good hack&slash should have a interesting set of skills and special abilities that you use to form your gameplay. With Sacred 2 you are autoattacking and using 1-4 abilities (that many slots available) that get long cooldowns the more powerful they get. And if you combine them into Combos the cooldowns get even longer.

What I mean is the game does not allow me to form a good skillbased gameplay which should be a staple of a hack&slash game. The few skillslots and skill cooldowns limit flexible gameplay a lot in my opinion.

I just checked the Wizard gameplay video from D3 just some day ago, and Blizzard do know how to do a great hack&slash. You are never autoattacking, but using many different skills to build a diverse gameplay which is flexible and interesting.

In the end I felt Sacred 2 gameplay to be dull, which is a shame because the crafted world, map and questing looks great.

Yeah i bought it. While i don't have any performance related issues or any crashes, it still has a lot of bugs like broken quests, some monsters are immortal, your horse won't reappear when you log in the next time and many others. In German forums many people describe crashes and slow downs, esp with the latest hotfix. The lobby system is also still flawed. It's quite entertaining, but imho it was not ready for prime time yet. I will probably sell it in the next couple of days since many other good games come out.

Sounds like the first game... It was really buggy on release. Similar bugs.

It's been out here in sweden for a few days (dunno exactly when it was released here, i bought it monday), I picked up two copies one for me and one for my brother.

On my system it runs pretty well. Stay away from latest hot fix though. It makes the game stutter alot. The game is still quite buggy. It crashes from time to time on brother puter. For me it's fine (unless using the latest hotfix that is).

The game requires online activation and you can use it on two computers, online you can only play one at a time though but it will work for two people on lan according to reports from official forums. However you can also unlink the game should you wish to sell it, dvd is not requried to play.

Thus far it's been rather fun to play, i did like the first game and this one feels much the same with some slight changes in skill and other classes to play.
Theres loads of quests to do. The good loot is much harder to find now compared to the first game where it was way too easy.

Gfx looks a tad bit flat but it's not _that_ bad, textures are ok. with the collectors edition you get an extra dvd with higher quallity textures but I bought standard versions so I can't comment on those.

There's plenty of humor and references in the game too :)

The humor definitely adds to the game. High res textures don't seem to make a difference and are flawed too at the moment according to official forums.

I don't think it's a good idea to offer higher quality textures only to people who buys collectors edition, it's not fair

I have to agree about the HQ textures. I personally don't want anything in the CE versions other than the HQ textures. I still haven't bought it cause I am waiting to see if the US version will have the HQ textures on the standard version.

It is fair as long as there is no huge/noticeable difference between HQ and vanilla. as I've been hearing. :p

It's really hard to notice when zoomed out to normal combat/action mode, well unless you like combat with it zoomed in.

Sacred 2: Fallen Angel Patch 2.34.0.0

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Download: www.patches-scrolls.de/sacred2.php

Version 2.34.0 includes the following:

New Content:

* New area with 24 aboveground sectors and about 6 additional underground
sectors
* New textures and objects to create a snowy landscape
* Additional sounds for the snowy landscape
* 20 new creatures
* New NPCs
* New full quest chain
* Additional armor set for each character
* New armor items and weapons

Hint: The Christmas Island is shrouded in mystery so you can't see it on the world map. To begin your journey to it, find and speak to the Kobold in Thylysium, then sail to the port he unlocks.

Fixes:

* It was not possible to load an old save after patching, if the
character in the old save had an item in their hand (held by the mouse
pointer) at the time the save occurred.
* Characters over lvl 61 were unable to create game channels (only able
to join them).
* Sometimes after rebirth at a resurrection monolith, the character
started at an incorrect position on the map leading to a dead end.
* The fourth Guardian of the Big Machine could sometimes be killed while
it still idled. This skipped the end boss fight.
* Crystal Monster: The lightbeam adjustment didn’t rotate which led to
confusion about why the hero was stunned.
* When tabbing out of the game then going back, the position of the
mounted hero had changed.
* Temple Guardian’s “Amplifying Discharge” with Mods 1b & 2b "
Ricochet": Rebounding projectiles did not cause further damage after
the first rebound.
* Temple Guardian’s “Combat Alert” with Mod 1a "Assault": The
increase in attack value was not shown on the tooltip.
* Temple Guardian’s “Dedicated Blow”: The damage conversion for
'prone to ice' for fire elementals converted damage into poison.
* High Elf’s “Blazing Tempest” dealt too much damage.
* High Elf’s “Fire Demon” with just achieved mod "Enliven": The
increased damage was only visible after changing the CA slots. New
damage is now instantly shown.
* High Elf’s “Glacial Thorns” dealt too much damage and caused
massive frame rate fall off when used on bosses.
* The “Fire Demon” and “Moribund Animus” buffs restarted
automatically. Now you need to reactivate them again manually.
* Inquisitor‘s “Ruthless Mutilation” didn’t work properly with
ranged weapons.
* Shadow Warrior’s “Rallied Souls” with Mod 1a "Armament"
resistance values were too high.
* Seraphim’s “Archangel's Wrath” with Mod 1b "Salve": Additional
fireball was added but damage didn’t decrease.
* At the end of a combat-art move the Dryad erroneously shot another
round of shuriken/knifes.
* Dryad’s Hireling “Moribund Animus” no longer lies down every few
seconds.
* It was possible to forge high-level items into low-level weapons and
armor. This could lead to overpowered items. Now the highest level of
the forged items will be the new level of the item.
* Slot boni on forged items didn’t work properly. Now silver slots give
7 % bonus and gold slots give 15 % bonus.
* Item bonus "+x to all CA’s" didn’t work correctly.
* Monster attacks had a motionblur-effect that lasted too long.
* The audio option “Character Effects on Center” had no effect on
playback in 5.1 surround sound.
* Several sound issues fixed for boss music, deathsplatter-effect and
unique items.
* Missing sound profiles added for T-mutant Human and High Elves as well
as for new mini-bosses.
* All sounds were initiated with a short snapping sound.
* Singleplayer CoOp: When you started an SP game and opened the game as
MP, the server started without a name. Now the name is
CharacternameXXXX where XXXX stands for a random 4 digit number.
* Rivers had dust clouds instead of water splashes.
* Inventory picture for “Celdrahil's Gloves” was missing.

If I loved Diablo 2, but Titan Quest bored me, will I like this game?

Buio
02-02-09, 12:45 AM
No.

Titan Quest and Sacred 2 both does one thing right, which is a wonderful seamless world. But both have problems with the gameplay. Titan Quest has a better combat system than Sacred 2, but neither comes close to D2. Personally I found TQ fun to play, while S2 bored me.

In an action rpg, the combat system has to be the integral part of gameplay and polished to the max. D2 succeded with that.

LurkerLito

It's hard to say, I liked both D2 and TQ. Sacred2 game feels more like a single player MMORPG type game than something more linear with no real subquests like Diablo 2. Some quests can get tedious as they are just like MMO quests, go here, kill this or save that person and come back, or deliver this here and come back, or escort me here. If you like the looting and finding equipment aspect of Diablo then you'll like this game as there are a lot of equipment you can find including unique items, set items, etc.

Each character plays different and each one has different quests even the main story line though similar are different for each character type. Each character type can be built anyway you like though each class has limitations in their combat arts. But like MMO's once you select a skill there is no going back or changing your mind. The game doesn't let you have multiple save slots or a way to undo choices you make when you level. When you exit the game it auto saves.

Overall I personally like the game a lot. There is a lot of replay to it and it's really been the one game I am playing. FYI the game world is HUGE and even now that I have finished the game once, I still haven't seen a good portion of the whole world. Traveling might be an issue for you as there is nothing like a town portal teleport. There are a few teleports around but they are all at fixed locations. You can buy a horse to speed up travel but it still seems slow when your in the middle of nowhere needing to go back to town because your inventory is full and you know you'll be fighting all the way there and back as all the mobs respawn and pretty fast.

EciDemon

I still like the game and play it every now and then to kill some time, love the huge world.

LurkerLito, you can always exit the game with Alt+F4 if you just want to test spending points in something you're not sure of, game wont save if you exit that way.

With latest patches the game has been very stable for me.

saguy

The game is stable and bug free apart from my horse has disappeared. The reason why I have stopped playing is that it is too easy even on the hard setting. I am level 30 and still questing in that big city early on in the game with the harbour (can't remember the name). Am I too high a level for these quests and would moving to another area introduce more difficult monsters and bosses. I have a ranged build in which I have invested in avoidance and damage - I hardly ever get hit and I am still using very low level armour in that it does not have any penalties.

I am not sure what to do as I like the mechanics of the game but it is just too damn easy so I loose interest after 20 minutes

LurkerLito
02-03-09, 02:14 PM
Are you playing on bronze difficulty? That is real easy especially if you actually do a lot of quests. You'll out level most of the mobs especially in the area you are in. You should forget about those quests and move on. On Silver difficulty you will run into more difficult enemies as their levels will scale better once you are past the 20's in that area you are in. Though the funny thing is the bosses on bronze still gave me trouble.

Buio
02-04-09, 01:38 AM
I didn't buy the game but only played the demo (several times). The problem for me is that Sacred 2 has only a few slots for special abilities (max 4?). Also when you level them and they become more powerful they also get longer cooldowns. And if you use the combo funcion to chain abilities into one slot, the cooldown only gets longer. So the combat system is just a lot of autoattacking while waiting for cooldowns. It just feels unrewarding. And the combat skills also felt a bit dull, well maybe better on the other characters. Feel free to correct me, because as I said I never got the full game after playing the demo.
