I've had my GTX9800 for about 2 1/2 months and it's been great. But I decided to trade up through EVGA and get the newer GTX260 216 core card. Net cost for the 260 after the deal is $299, about the same as if I bought it straight out. I'm sure I could have saved $20-$30 elsewhere, but at least EVGA gave me my original purchase price of $199 for my "old" GTX9800. Lifetime warranty to boot.....nice.......:D
I shipped my GTX9800 back today....should get my new GTX260 216 core card in about a week or so.....awesome!
I'm upgrading my Samsung 19" widescreen monitor to 24", so I wanted the GTX260 216 core to take advantage of the higher rez for gaming.
All indications show the GTX260 216 core should be a good OC'er. I'll report back when I get it. :)

Yeah I am doing the trade up maybe next month too. :)
Let me know how it goes
I had a 9800 GTX in my rig as of last night, gave it to my parents for their new build (yes sooooo overkill) since their new parts just arrived, and put my new gtx 260 in. So far, I am absolutely loving it, far better than the 9800. I have the 216 shaders also btw.
You won't regret it. :D
BTW, I have a 24" @ 1920 x 1200 also.

Checked the EVGA site and my card shipped today! (nana2)I should have it on Monday the 28th. I'll let you guys know how it performs once it arrives. Can't wait to crank up Crysis (again), UT3, Bioshock and my soon to be newest addition - FarCry2!!

They're charging you FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS for a GTX 260, minus $200 for your old card, for a total cost to you of $299???
Or am I reading "Net cost for the 260 after the deal is $299" wrong?

You misunderstood......here's the deal.
I paid $199 for my GTX9800+ at Newegg.com
I did EVGA's step up to the GTX260 216core:
GTX260 216core cost $299 from EVGA, less the $199 credit they gave me from my original purchase from Newegg. So I paid EVGA $100 for the upgrade.
Sooo....my total cost for the GTX260 216core is $299 ($199 to newegg, $100 to EVGA).
I like I said before, I could have saved $30 or so buying elsewhere, but I wouldn't have been able to sell my GTX9800+ for $199, as they are now going for $149 in some places!!
The step up program was the way to go for an upgrade IMHO.

Gotta luv their program. I've used it in the past and almost used BFG's similar plan with my current 9800GTX, but didn't really have the PSU to upgrade. Enjoy your new card, man!

Ok, I was thinking about trying the step up with my card but for a second it sounded like they were charging some insane retail price. lol Sounds like a pretty good deal though.

Ohhhh sweet! :D
Newegg just dropped the price of the GTX 260 by $10! :D
And someone at eVGA ( :bleh: ) assured me that there should be enough games for quite a while, so I should have no problem ordering a card now and getting a free copy of Far Cry 2. :)
I'm going to finally upgrade my video card after 2 years. Woohoo. :p
$255 GTX 260 - $40 MIR = $215 - $50 free Far Cry 2 = $165
I should be able to get around $175-$225 for my 8800 GTX on ebay so I think I might actually profit from this upgrade.

I really doubt you'll get anywhere near that for your used 8800 GTX. Why would someone pay that when they can shop around and get a faster new GTX9800+ for $150. ;) You never know, so good luck to ya!

Research kapt. :D
Completed auctions for 8800GTX cards on ebay show that the cards are getting anywhere from $150 to $250. Partially because people are not up to speed and don't know where to shop and partially because lots of ebay users are from countries where these cards are extremely expensive.
I feel kind of bad for not selling my cards on here to members but I can usually get 50% more by selling a card on ebay and its usually to someone in Europe.
I'll be very very surprised if I don't get at least $175 for this, and I'm planning on giving it a buy it now price of $200, which will probably go. I have reasonable shipping charges as well, which helps a lot.
EDIT: For some examples...
I got just under $500 for my 7950GX2 a couple weeks before the 8800GTX was released. I sold my brother's 7900GTX for around $350 at the same time.

Yeah it never ceases to amaze me what you can sell and get on e-bay. Alot of those buyers are not what we call "educated consumers", but that's ok. It takes all types to make the world go 'round.
I do a fair amount of buying\selling on e-bay myself. I just didn't want to go through the hassle of selling, then shipping my GTX9800+ to some noob who then says the card is defective because he doesn't know the first thing about handling or installing computer hardware....been there, done that.
Anyhoo....good luck and I hope you get your asking price!!

I got $200 dollars cdn for my 8800GTX last week....they are still in demand...especially for those that have 1 or more 8800's already and are looking for an SLi setup to crank out those extra fps. The 8800GTX/Ultra is still a good card....and is in many ways superior to that poorly planned 9 series of gpu's.

Update.......my EVGA GTX260 216core arrived yesterday. Installation went flawlessly...... OC'd to 624\1345\2110 for now...runs fast and stable!
I did try the new forceware 180.43 beta drivers and they gave me some problems. So I went back to the 177.79's and they work great w/ all my games....no issues whatsoever. Crysis @1440x900 4AA DX10 custom cfg AND natural mod installed is absolutely stunning!:D
Bottom line.....VERY satisfied w/ my card and cudos to EVGA's step up program. It's great!

Your card has to be registered w/ EVGA first (you have to register it for warranty purposes). Then check the site under your profile\products to see if there is anything you can step up to.
Good luck.
