View Full Version : Palestinians Figure It Out!
BEIT HANOUN, Gaza Strip (AP) - Palestinian residents of a northern Gaza town demonstrated Tuesday after Israelis destroyed buildings and farms there in a five-day invasion, but in a rare twist, their wrath was directed at Palestinian militants for firing rockets from their property, not at the Israelis. . . .
The demonstrators blocked a main road with trash cans, rocks and burning tires in a show of outrage against the militants. Most of the rockets are launched by members of the violent Islamic Hamas.
``They (the militants) claim they are heroes,'' said Mohammed Zaaneen, 30, a farmer, as he carried rocks into the street. ``They brought us only destruction and made us homeless. They used our farms, our houses and our children ... to hide.''

Finally!!! There is hope yet.
Sounds like a good start. Each side needs to address their major problems. This how the Palestinians should address theirs. They need to get the militants out of the situation.
BTW NOBODY not even 1stFlight has said anything about Lebenon displacing Palestinians. It seems it's ok for Jordan and Lebenon to displace and slaughter Palestinians but it is terrible for Isreal.

there is a VAGUE possibility that not ALL israeli's and not ALL palestinians are for the use of force or attacks on civilians in order to resolve the issues that exist in the region..
there is no doubt that there have been terrible attrocities committed by both sides in the past thru today...
but changes need to be made and concessions in order to reach a middle ground agreeable to both..
this crud has gone on long enough...

The problem is the ones in power aren't for peace. Abbas though is something of a wildcard.
sharon however is not, he will see this as his successful breaking of the Palestinian will and use that to get concessions out of them for the peace process.
Note: these aren't just "I won't suicide bomb" concessions, it'll be things like, the Palestinian right to return, how much land the new Palestine will occupy, and making sure that israeli soliders are free from prosecution for their illegal acts.
All in all he'll use this not to promote concessions on both sides, but just concessions on one. Then call it peace, then when it fails, he'll blame Arafat again, and continue the cycle.

unfortunately sharon is in power through election (albeit with a coalition government)
but thats how it stands.. he has a RIGHT to push HIS parties agenda..
abbas has his own rights...
what sharon does not or should not have the right to do is isolate arafat... but then arafat himself needs to perhaps step back a bit and take a breather and come back after a while... his time @ the top appears to be coming to an end.. I enjoyed his enthusiasm back in the day but now he really needs to do his part to let things progress...

Meh. Barak should be elected again.
Palestinians would get a fair peace plan in 6 months... or Sharon would then be reelected. Heh.

I'll give you that, Arafat may well have outlasted his time, unfortunately, if he steps down the israeli's will try to assassinate him, again. So he's rather stuck.
Kinda funny when you think about it. Stay in power gets blamed for everything including the weather, steps down gets killed. Talk about your rock and a hard place.

I like barak as well... he is a doer...
sharon has too many negatives in his past to be considered an objective in this matter though I do feel he is doing HIS best :) as much as this may seem to be token lol... he is doing things he may not have even considered in his younger days...
but personally I am more of a barak fan... purely based on his ideaologies :)

Same here, with him in power I might actually have some respect of israel. As of now I'm pretty much of the mind that their policies and Nazi Germany's sound too much alike. :(

I have israeli friends :)
do not consider the actions of sharon as being representative of ALL israeli's... :)

Unfortunately, many Germans weren't Nazi's either, it didn't change what happened.
Believe it or not, I take no pleasure in watching a people walk the path of destruction. However, if they've failed to learn the lessons of history then I have no sympathy.

Ok. I have no idea of what happend to the Palestinians during the gulf war. That's why I wasn't sure of what you were talking about so I thought maybe it was sarcasm. :p

God, I wish this problem would go away...
This really seems to be a humdinger so to speak. So much hatred on each side it makes solutions difficult to find.
Sometimes I wish the US would just stay out of it. It seems they always depend on us to broker these peace treaties over there. Why doesn't frickin zimbabwe step in and do something fer crying out loud? It's *always* the US that they seem to expect to come in there and mediate this stuff. Why?

currently zimbabwe is involved in its own ethnic struggles :)
the incumbent is too busy taking land away from white landowners to do anything in terms of peace brokering... :)
they are trying to implement their own form of apartheid :(

Zi·on·ism ( P ) Pronunciation Key (z-nzm)
n.
A Jewish movement that arose in the late 19th century in response to growing anti-Semitism and sought to reestablish a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Modern Zionism is concerned with the support and development of the state of Israel.
So just what did they plan to do with the people that already lived there?
Com'on UDawg, use your imagination....
Lack of intelligence again?
Btw, when does israel plan to stop growing?

Because we are helping to continue the problem. Israel looks to us to save it from the wrath of the rest of the civilized world, Palestinians are hoping we'll just butt out.
While the rest of the ME can use the issue to make sure their populaces stay nice and pissed off at the israeli's (of course the israeli's don't help the issue any), and bide their time until they can develope better weapons.
If the situation isn't resolved it will get worse before it gets any better.

That's another messed up situation.
Looks like they're trying to settle old scores more than anything else.

I have tried being nice, goofy even self deprecating humor in my posts but you have on more than one occasion called me and people who think as I do unintelligent. This is starting to really bug me.
I posted my unintelligent statement to say I thought you could do better than comparing Isreal to Nazis.
I am not mad nor do I dislike you or even thing you are unintelligent but I am disapointed that you can't conduct a debate with out insulting others.
I am well awar in the past I have acted rude and pissed off many here but I have tried my best to just get along. I think I should just stay away from these kind of political posts since it always leads to insults.
Maybe the problem is me. I don't know.
Cheers

well... per se I have no problem with you or bu :) ( I mention U 2 since you are the most propimnent members of the board with a similar ideaology)
I think some of the bad blood that exists is likely due to the Iraq thread we discussed on for so long...
unfortunately there might exist a stigma that you are acting in a demeaning fashion... this is not to say that you are... but I am assuming this :(
I think perhaps 1stflight and you and bu should sort of sign a little peace treaty of your own... and perhaps call a truce in hostilities towards each other... either real or perceived...
btw.. I DO recommend that perhaps the insulting rhetoric be cut down to a minimum... 1stflight ?
/me is happy to nominate himself for the nobel peace prize...
