Well I have had this card in my machine for about 4 hours now. I've been doing some little tests for my own personal amusement to see what it is like. So far for the price you pay for one of these it does not seem to be that bad. Of course there is the anisotropic issue, but then again if you buy a budget card you can't expect x8 anisotropic filtering can you;) :D

I have been testing this on Battlefield 1942 on the Market Garden map, which IMO is the evil bitch of them all (play it on a 850 Athlon and a GF2 GTS and you will know why). I have it set at 1280x768 with maximum detail settings, with all image quality settings left as they are (off) the average FPS was a quite admirable 80 fps. Then came the anisotropic, never set it at x8 for this card or you will cry and think you opened powerpoint:D I lowered the settings to medium after that, when set to x4 the average was around 40fps, it was playable but not very nice to be honest. I have yet to get round to x2 since I'm currently talking to people:p :D

With the DetsFX I think this card is a bit better than most people would let on, it comes down to person preference really. Image quality does not really bother me when it comes to gaming as I'm too busy fragging to notice. So far from a very limited test (I will bo doing a hell of a lot more;)) I quite like this card, and I think it justifys itself as a budget option.

Also try not to flame as I am just offering my view on this after some experience with the card. Just don't think of it as anything but a budget card.:)

The 5200 non ultra I have here only loses a few hundred onionmarks when I enable 8x AF in 3dmark2k1SE. :D

Where as the 4200 loses a few THOUSAND onionmarks when 8x AF is enabled...... :( :o

AF bug on NV25 really really sucks.

This is with Detonator 43.51 WHQL, haven't tried 44.03 yet.

Overall the 5200 (128bit mem bus) is quite a surprise package. It's not as bad as I would have thought in some areas and it's very bad in some other areas. I'll write a more thorough mini-review later if I have the time.

Its great to see some praise for the 5200U, lots of people will be looking that way for a card (most likely me and my 2 kids well, flippin evil teenagers actually, I cant get a frag in edgeways!!!)

I might try and be sneaky and get myself something a little sweeter but the sulky evil ones will probably just steal it all.

the Ultras retail at $75???? Are you sure they are not the regular gfFX5200s? The general MSRP is like $150+ from what I've seen.

Yeah it should be a bit cheaper than it is now, although it's still a fairly nice card:D

I just did some searching on pricewatch, and it looks like the GeForce FX 5600 is about the same price as the 5200 Ultra right now.

I think this is mostly just because the 5200 series is primarily for the OEM market, not for the consumer market. The only good deals with these cards, for at least a little while, will probably be when packaged with new PC's.

I got my EVGA FX 5200 ULTRA for $129 online thru EVGA. I rec'd an email from them and a coupon number that you use at time of purchase. EVGA is having a "GAMERS PROMO" and is still going on as we speak. Anyways , I wish I could get you guys the link for that promo. $129 for a 5200 ULTA is not that bad.
Go and search for the "EVGA FX5200 ULTRA on the web and should get you at the right place.

This EVGA card is sweet. I keep reading all those review about the 5200 ULTRA, that it is slower than the Ti4200 and just as close to the G4MX400, well that is not TRUE based on experience.
It is almost close or as close to the GF4 Ti 4200.

I did my bencmarks and play games with it and not that bad. I never really had anything bad to say about EVGA's Product. Superb service.

Well I'll try to get back and give you guys the LINK

if it's almost close to or close to a ti4200. Isn't the statement that it is slower than a ti4200 correct???
Or is there some new kind of language i haven't learned?
This has probably been mentioned alot of times. But isn't a ti4200 a better purchase then the 5200regular and ultra considering those can be found cheaper?

I have a Ti4200 also......... but to answer your question
in my experience T14200 = FX 5200 ULTRA in "real gaming application" not BENCHMARKS.

I don't think that a T14200 will be a better purchase at this time - it is a lot cheaper now but I believe that if the FX 5900 series would be a good choice or for those who likes ATI the 9500/9700 series.

I bougth the card to play with it and I like my little experiments.
But was surpirised by the rsult the 5200 ULTRA gaved me. I am keeping this one on one machine.

Really? What settings do you use typically in games?

As for myself, I almost exclusively use 8x anisotropic and 2x AA on my GeForce4 Ti 4200, usually at 1024x768 (800x600 in a few games, such as Unreal 2 and Unreal Tournament 2003).
