some control panel items wont open

user accounts
services.msc wont run from ...run
system
windows update
amonst others

Vista built-in games work fine (woohoo)

Any ideas?

1) Launch services.msc from a run command
2) Find the SL UInotify service & stop it
3) Find the Software Licensing service & stop it
4) Restart both services, starting with Software Licensing

I get strange problems like this too. Rebooting fixes the problem, but they'll come back once a month.

I ran auslogics registry defrag AGAIN and my stuff came back, phew ,Otherwise I'd have to uninstall sp1 and do an install repair from vista dvd which might not have worked.
