Looks like the powers that be are already using its new powers for non-terrorism cases...

http://www.talkleft.com/archives/003196.html#003196

I suppose its not long before they starting using the PATRIOT act to clamp down on MP3 file sharing eh?

its always nice to see accountability... and seeing accountability of a controversial act in question makes it easier for me to walk around and speak the way I wish :)

I do not agree with the patriot act.. however if we do have reports such as this coming out I feel less inclined to ask for its recall..

I concur that it is a highly controversial act and probably does not warrant existence... but since it DOES exist.. this is one of the proper ways to keep the act under appropriate scrutiny...

nice little link dave :)

Personally, I am most inclined to place utter faith in anything this site says. Especially when this is right on the front page: Liberal coverage of crime-related political and injustice news.

Nice that you can dismiss a news story just because it comes from a liberal site:rolleyes: I guess anything from a republican site is the fricking gospel huh?

But fine by me, bend over for the government and be a true "patriot":p

"I guess anything from a republican site is the fricking gospel huh?" yes! :p

Come on Vamp, the name of the website is talkleft.com  Of course the source in this case matters.

Excuse me, but I bend over for no one but my urologist. I also am willing to hear all sides of an argument, except when a site is an unabashed ultraliberal propaganda machine.

You can read the full 62 page report here (http://www.house.gov/judiciary/patriotlet051303.pdf). The New York Times' has this (http://www.nytimes.com/2003/05/21/international/worldspecial/21PATR.html?ex=1054525819&ei=1&en=7d581da947c0a385) on the report.

Other sources good enough?;)

Before even reading the replies to this post, let me conjecture that Udawg made an indict of the source...yep I'm right, gee how did I guess?

One big gaping .50-cal round sized hole in your indictment of the source: it's from the House of Representatives!. Sure the article is posted on a liberal news source, but that takes nothing away from the facts posted within, just look through that .pdf file on the House link and all those facts are right there.

Next time I see Fox News report on something from the House of Representatives I'll just say it can't be true because it was reported by a conservative news agency. Nice double standard by claiming one biased source is better than another (how strange that the one you claim to be superior also shares your beliefs).

So when are they going to get rid of all those cameras over in the UK?

It's kinda funny to hear Brits critisize the hell out of us and our "patriot act" when their every move is monitored in public. Weeee....

wow...

there was the whole thing with the IRA and random bombs and stuff hence i would have assumed the cameras would have been considered a logical means of gathering data for security...

the brits do not have laws AFAIK along the lines of the patriot act...

do you know anything about the UK, could you be any more ignorant than you just were? The cameras are in the town centers and no where else. Since we have a little problem with street crime, they are used to monitor trouble and alert the police. Wow what a retarded post..

Yes of course. The website is out right liberal. I have no problems with that. It is just one thing to take into consideration while reading the article. I did not say the article is a lie because it is from a liberal source. It just means the slant the article has in it is better understood when you know that politics of the person writing the article. Especialy when it is from and on a political topic. This the way the game in politics is played. Ya should brush up on your political knowledge.

You guys have to calm down when sources are questioned. Isn't you guys who say you don't trust the media and it lies? Yes it is you guys. If I put up a article from Foxnews you guys always jump on it as a out right lie, biased ect. Have a little constistancy. At least I am. Wheather you like it or not. I do stay constant in my arguments.

That doesn't change the fact that they aren't here. And they are over there. Thanks, but you have addressed NOTHING.

All of their moves are watched in public, controlled by public officals, all of our moves are recorded in secret by Foreign Interlliegence Services, or private corporations....

We're not as free as we'd like to think we are.

Of course it doesn't help when so many are willing to trade those fought for freedoms in for nothing. So much for patriotism.

Btw, since when is being liberal a bad thing? I must have missed the memo.

So far our conservatives aren't anything to support of any American values.

Whats the point in trying to answer a argument when you act like a complete retard when it is answered. You said every movement is recorded, I proved you wrong. Point addressed maybe? Plus they are needed over here, but of course you would not know anything about the UK.

And ofcourse, you're an expert on both.

Gee, cameras do monitor every moment. They can't pick and choose. It's kinda how they work professor.

I never said they monitor every movement EVERYWHERE either, that's you adding that in there.

The cameras are controlled by people einstein:p which is why when a fight breaks out you see them all turn in the direction of the trouble.

You said everywhere in public when that is not true.

If you wish to see why we have these cameras go to a news site and search for "IRA". We have had a couple of decades of crap from them. Believe it or not Britain is no stranger to terrorism:(

Jeez, do I have to explain EVERYTHING? They pick up everything in their field of view, EVERY MOVEMENT. It's called line of sight doctor.

Oh, btw, it's a pleasure to know there's someone else out there that can be just as acidic and sarcastic as I am. It's a pleasure, and I mean that. ;)

Better flamers than him have tried, and failed:p

Yes they do pick up everything in their field of view, but the camera operators do not just zoom in on peoples shopping, or watch them sit and talk to each other. They specifically watch for trouble makers and follow any known trouble makers around.

I've never questioned your Fox News sources, made fun of some of them maybe, but I've always considered them reliable sources.

As far as the UK cameras debate, yes it's true we don't have cameras here in the US, we just have the NSA. Don't think for one second any more or fewer privacy violations occur in the UK than in the US.
