I have this mobo (the very first revision of it)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128012

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Motherboard/Products_Overview.aspx?ProductID=2314

and right now i am running a e6400 in there but i can upgrade to a q6600 or e8500 with no problems right?

second and more importantly, ive sort of been out of the cpu loop lately, so from a pure gaming standpoint and taking the rest of my pc into the equation (check sig) would a cpu upgrade be worth it now and which cpu would you suggest (not too expensive and with overclocking in mind)?

thanks

but is the e8400/q6600/other cpu going to be much of an upgrade over my e6400?

edit: just did some forum searching and it seems the rev 1.0 doesnt oc well with the q6600 and doesnt even run the e8400 so i might just get an aftermarket cooler (xigmatek s1283) and oc my e6400 further.

Revision 1.0 does NOT support any 45nm processors

I have the same motherboard

Does support the Q6600 however.
