i wouldn't buy Nikkon, and what ever you do avoid Panasonic (noise king).

this is much better

but personally would wait for the SX1 IS
10MP
20x zoom
CMOS sensor
1080p video recording

I don't really think you could go wrong with a Canon but I have no idea about that range of cameras. The website you should check for reviews is dpreview. (http://www.dpreview.com/)

EDIT: Also don't you mean the SX10 because my quick look up makes me think the SX1 is gonna be well out of the $400 budget he said. SX1 currently available at Amazon UK for 520 (US$800-900).

Canon FTW

Their controls are great, the cameras have great features and their prices are pretty damned good.

My brother has an S5 and it takes some amazing pictures. My 4 year old 2.0Mpixel A60 still holds its own too.

Nothing against Canon but I'm a Nikon guy.

How about this:

Bit more ($429) than the other but light years ahead of it in picture quality. Nice DSLR starter kit. Don't worry about the 6 megapixels, it's plenty unless you plan on humongous prints.

I currently have a D80 and plan on upgrading to the D90 for Christmas.

not a big fan of SLR, total cost will be a lot more expensive, after you start buying lenses.

18-55mm sucks don't buy DSLRs with lenses. it's a standard type of lens they all comes with them.. always 18-55mm just to bump up the price.

Buy body only and choose good lens..

i may suggest you some ..well, it may be a lil bit more expensive, but hey we r talking about some serious pictures.. not So serious but anyway DSLRs!!! you'll learn about photo then you'll be seeing stuff you didn't before thеn you gonna go and buy more lens.. anyway.. 18-55mm is gonna be useless then.

Canon EOS Rebel XSi Black 12.20 MP $579.00 very good
