View Full Version : Koolance system
Ok guys. I have decided on this Koolance (http://www.infotechnow.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=945) system. It is a great deal with the free CPU block. I am getting a chip-set and Vid block for it also.
Before I do please can anyone tell me how is the best way to cool my 9700pro. I am totally lost on this part. Can I just take off the HSF clean the chip and slap the block on or do I have other issues to settle such as the memory? I know it may sound like a noob question but I am a noob when it comes to water cooling systems. Be gentle with me....:o I'm a water cooled puter system virgin. *blushes*
a water cooling virgin eh??? well i am too kinda... maybe someone can de-virginize us both on the issue of water cooling:D
but i believe that you can just do something like this:

slap one of those babies on, and grab some ram sinks for your memory chips and you should have one chilly videocard:afro:
p.s.
look at this baby shine!

I am sure it is easy but I want to use the HS that are on the memory. I'd rather do it that way. So any info out there would be helpful.

What do you mean by wanting to use the HS that are on the memory? Do you mean that you want a waterblock that will cover both your VPU & memory chips? If this is the case then you may need to custom make one for yourself. Although I'm quite sure that some waterblocks that cover both will begin showing soon, seeing that it may be the only way to overclock the GFFX cards, whose factory heatsink cover both out of necesity.
Another thing I noticed was that you wanted to cool your CPU, GPU, and chipset w/ the koolance. The Koolance watercooling rig is really basic and for beginners. The overhead from trying to watercool those three parts will have your CPU temps pretty close to good aircooled temps. So if you're looking for a quieter case, it may be good but don't expect your CPU to do much more. Your Radeon will probably go a bit higher though.
Do a search on google for some reviews of the Koolance systems and it should confirm what I've told you. Hope this helps.

Yah Yah! I want as much info as possible before I spend my money.
BTW what I mean is I wanted to leave on the HS that came with the card and just put on the water block.

Koolance offers a spacer (http://koolance.com/products/product.html?code=CHC-A04) for large heatsinks. It basically takes the place of the fan in large heatsinks. You may want to check it out. I don't know much about it, because it is the one product that does not have manuals available. If this is compatible, I would personally prefer that to pulling the heatsink off (Even the stock ATI reference HSF). I know that the Koolance chipset waterblock will fit perfectly onto the Radeon's core, because the block is smaller than the overlarge lip around the die. But since your card has a large heatsink that covers the VRAM chips, avoiding having to take off the heatsink would be ideal.
[Edit]
By the way, good find on the price.
The only place I had found anywhere near that was $199 USD for just the case at TigerDirect, or $250 USD with CPU block.
Well after looking at Swiftech again. I think They are what I want. Like you guys pointed out I will need a more powerfull pump since I want to cool the GPU, CPU and the Chipset.

I'm gonna wait till HL2 comes out to see when the next GPU or VPU is gonna be out and what it will offer for the price. It is nice, I got till october to get this planned and installed.
