I thought Blu-ray playback required the purchase of a separate plug-in. Is it not available for Nero 9?

Yeah, they won't give me a refund.

I flat out told them I wanted my money back from the "downgrade" and they said that's not "company policy", after which I said "this purchase will be my last with [your] company"

Why on earth are they going backwards?

If you paid by CC, you might be able to file a dispute or ask for a chargeback. Couldn't hurt.

I just bought PowerDVD 8 Ultra, so I'll be using that for DVDs and Blu-rays from now on.

I'll use Nero for the occasional burn.

PowerDVD 8 has some bugs of its own though, like playing a disc sometimes makes the play window just a black screen and I have to stop and play it again for it to work. Maybe it's the 180 drivers.

This is why most stayed with 7.3.

No it's not!

The Blu-ray plugin works with Nero 9. I have used it since Nero 7 and it worked nice with Nero 9 to watch, edit and burn Blu-ray/HD material.

LOL So there is a plugin? ::o:

It's lame you have to buy it extra, but at least it's there and works across multiple versions.

Yeah, but note that the old plug-in does not work with Nero 9 you need to buy a new one!!! That is not good :(

That is not a playback plug-in. According to Nero's tech support, it will NOT allow playback, only authoring of blu-ray.

PDVD8 also cannot play "Earth: The Biography" which I bought from amazon.

WinDVD9 also can't

In the end I got Arcsoft TotalMedia which is the only one can play.:thumbdwn:

Maybe I'll try the PDVD7.3 though.

There was also a patch for the LG Blu-Ray/HD-DVD player as well for 7.3. It also pertained to black screens while watching BD. How do you like Arcsoft TotalMedia does it support hardware acceleration for ATI/Nvidia?

And they wonder why BLu Ray adoption has been slow.

Umm... yeah... I think it makes more sense just to throw a cheap blu-ray player off to the side instead spending all the money on the software and working through the nightmares of software/hardware/driver compatability... Bluray players are like $199 now and probably will be even cheaper come black friday....

Well it's the only software I can use so I can't really comment on it.
But it does have hardware acceleration. (though I didn't tested for it, at least the BD movie played smothly)

Nero 9 is crap. Even w/ the blu-ray plugin it didn't work for me.

I'm using Powerdvd 8 Ultra, and it's been good so far.

Here's a slightly OT question- does Windows MC have support for Blue-RAY and HD-DVD? Is there a way to use MC for playback of those discs?

Maybe nobody read my other post about the "blu-ray plug-in" which stated that it is not for playback only authoring of blu-ray. Hence buying it will not give you playback capabilities in ShowTime. Just forget about ShowTime, get PowerDVD and move on like the rest of us.
