It seems my 8800 GTX has contracted some incurrable disease and has had the life sucked from it. Just a few hours ago, the screen began flickering and games began crashing randomly. I installed a new driver, but it did not help. I turned off the computer for roughly 30 minutes, and when I turned it back on, the flickering had intensified. Not only that, instead of just being noticeable at the desktop, it started happening at the post screen and continued through booting. :ill:

I've already submitted an RMA with EVGA.

RIP 8800 GTX. Many great games were completed while you were in service.

We will never forget ye. :(

I'm sure you'll get an 8800GTX. They're not that old! :D

Lol, my bet is he gets a 9800GTX. You can't really buy 8800gtx's anymore can you? And they are what? 2 years old? That's pretty old in computer standards.

EDIT: Actually as of tomorrow (the 8th), the 8 series GPU's will be officially 2 years old.

But isn't the 9800GTX just a revamped 8800GTS? I guess we'll just have to wait and see. My bet is still on the 8800GTX. ;)

A computer tech that I talked to today said that I MIGHT get a GTX 260 back... somehow I seriously doubt that though. :(

The good news is that a friend of mine recently bought an 8800 GT, so his old 7800 GT now has a home in my computer until the video card comes back. :D

BTW, I played a little bit of Oblivion tonight with the 7800 GT... wow, what a downgrade...

AND THE DAMN THING IS ****ING LOUD!!!! :headexplode:

XFX wanted to send me a 8600GT 256MB (120 Euros) as replacement for my 7900GTX XT 512MB (600 Euros) (and after 6 months of RMA). Full Story Here (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=94262)

I think that EVGA is a good company. I wish you luck with the replacement :)

That's pretty much how mine went too :(

Worst part is, the company that made it no longer make graphics cards, so best i can get in return is the 9800GTX

well it was bound to happen... my old 8800GTX would run at 100*C under load with stock cooling... i had a HR-03 plus for it which lowered load temps to 70-75*C... well lets hope you get another 8800GTX or an ultra instead of a 9800GTX which would be a step down

R.I.P. I always hate when a card just up and dies. That happened to me with both my 8800gts640mb oc2, and my 8800gts512mb(g92) The 512 died within a month of purchase. Just turned on the pc one day and the screen had a horrible red tint. Its a terrible feeling when your baby dies.

Funny, my 8800GTX Ultra SC from evga is doing the same thing this past 3-4 weeks. At first I thought it was drivers, as it's been a while since I've upgraded or played around with them.

I think it's time for me to try and get an RMA started as well.

RIP... my 8800GTX is still kicking ass in games. Farcry 2.. full settings... 2xAA @ 1920x1200 and its average is 34 FPS :) This is by far the longest lasting and best video card I have ever owned :)

Make sure that if you have stock cooling, take the cover off and blow the dust out of that sucker. Apparently, a can of compressed air isn't even close to enough. I always blew the dust out of mine with compressed air, and there was still a huge amount of build up in the card when I checked it out.

Believe it or not, since this is the first time I've lost a high dollar computer part, I spent 2 hours today rearranging my room so I can not only play in a more acoustic setting, but my PC is no longer on the floor either. It's now on my desk right next to me.

Dust will NOT kill my next video card! (throwpc)

Also, is it a coincidence that it seems like all of our 8800's are dying at the same time?
