View Full Version : Nvidia GT212 with 384 SPs until Q2/2009?
the gt300 is supposed to be a new arcitecture. 216 gbs bandwidth? it has a 512 bit GDDR5 memory bus. at 7ghz thats 448 gbs or so. at 5 its probobly about 320 gbs bandwidth.
EDIT: and it says only dx 10.1 support?
I call bs.
Yes I agree. I thought it was supposed to be DX11. At least that is the rumour.

You can buy the GT200b (GTX 285/295) 'now'. (DX10)
The GT212 should arrive before the summer. (DX10)
The GT300 will arrive before the end of the year. (DX11)
It's crazy to upgrade knowing all this info.

Nvidia delays 40nm parts
http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/384/1050384/nvidia-delays-40nm-parts
... the three initial 40nm parts have been pushed back from Q2 to Q3, and that at least one of them - likely the GT212 - is dead ...
Nvidia GT212 hasn't taped out
http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/399/1050399/nvidia-gt212-hasn-t-taped-out
... Given a test run/first silicon time after tapeout of ~10 weeks, and then another 12 for production, that would put it in Q3 anyway, sitting on top of the GT300, if that is on time ...
When the river sounds ... (carries water).
Lets see how expensive is the 176 GB/s ASUS GTX 285 card.

Looking forward to seeing a next gen part instead of the usual refresh we're going through now.
Still running my sexy 8800GTs in SLI for the moment.

So the GT212 will replace the GTX 285 and give us something between the GTX 285 and 295? or you think it will replace both?

At this point, with the way the economy is going and both ATI and Nvidia bleeding money very badly these last 6 months,i doubt that ambitious product releases that can be much faster than the current generation is something they can afford to release,at least until the overall economic situation improves.
Regarding the GT212 specifically, and if we take for granted that the 384 SP's are the real deal, they'd need the 40nm fab process up and running to handle such a massively complex chip, and it seems that TSMC's current 40nm process simply isn't suitable for it yet(leaks too much current).
It's the same problem that ATI had when they released the X2900XT on TSMC's 80nm process that allowed high clocks, but also leaked current like mad, like the current 40nm does as well....A hot running chip that used a crazy amount of power, and required a noisy cooler to keep temperatures under control, and that's not even taking into consideration overclocking it.
You don't really want that for the GT212 do you?
