Looking to upgrade my processor to a http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3241546&CatId=2396 or those that dont wanna follow link Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor.

I currently have a Gateway computer with a intel mobo D945gcf with a 1.8ghz dual core . My question is will this processor work with the mobo that i have . It appears that the 900 series will work with any 6000 or 4000 series dual core from what i understood from intel website but just wanted clarification from someone who knows much more than i do .
thanks for any help offered

I would say get a E6600 or E6700. Intel is releasing its new chips soon so the prices will drop. I would wait till they are released. It's right around the corner...

200$ for that chip is pretty expensive.

its a christmas present so Im not really paying anything i just was trying to see if it will work with my motherboard. I have looked over and over and cannot find what the best processor i can get with my motherboard is. Some pages i see on intel says that it will and other ones seem like it wont ,im not sure what the right answer is at this point. This is the page from my motherboard specs http://support.gateway.com/s/MOTHERBD/Intel2/4006160R/4006160Rsp2.shtml but it doesnt even say anything about dual core support which on the processor tab which is this http://support.gateway.com/s/Processors/4506357R/4506357Rsp2.shtml you can see thats what i have. Im so confused :(

styles-T has given you the link with pretty much the best info you're going to get. Forget what Gateway says. Get the latest BIOS upgrade from the Intel website and install it before you change processors. I also think an E6600 or E6700 would be the best bet.
