View Full Version : No AA in Dead Space with 4850

First two shots are with AA "enabled" in game settings, second two are with AA "forced" in CCC.

I wonder why this doesn't work??!

How are you trying to force the AA? If you're trying to enable it both in CCC and in-game or override it like you do Nvidia's, it won't work. You need to turn one of them off. If you're using the in-game option, set the CCC to application setting.

For games that have an in-game option, you need to enable that and set the AA filter to Edge Detect in the CCC. Leave AA on application setting. The game, if the filter works, will recognize a 12xAA pattern for 4xAA and 24xAA for 8xAA.

For the first two shots, it was on Apllication Controlled in CCC, "On" in the game console. For the second two, I set it to "Off" in the game console, and 4X Box in the CCC.

For the shots I just added that still show a lot of aliasing, I used your settings of On in Game Console, Application Controlled Edge Detect in CCC.

OK,

Now .. first of all, how is the game? Worth buying?

Secondly, what does it look like on a 280GTX? Does AA work for Nvidia graphics cards.
- When it is set to max, is there a performance hit as there should be?

Now with the 4850, have you tested performance to see if 8xMSAA has any effect when set?

and finally what does it look like - in comparison - with NO AA in game or in CCC ?

AFAIK ingame AA is just a blur shader applied to characters, so scenery is not antialiased. AA forced does not work at all from CCC, not sure about nVidia cards.

And the game is absolutely worth purchasing, it runs like butter even in 8800GTX cards.

all depends on the type of rendering used, just give it time, sooner or later ati might find something to force it, and nvidia will find the proper compabiliy bit to enable it

Yeah, I didn't think AA worked properly even on Nvidia for this one. Does it work on your 280s, Rollo?

$59.99-$49.99 != $20

And that's if you buy it new. Got my PS3 copy used for $11 after trade ins and discount coupons.

Nope. I installed a GTX280 and there is still some aliasing. Cranked up the res to 25X16, turned on what it has, and called it a day.

The game seems pretty good, I like survival horror games.

As I said before, it's not antialiasing but a blur shader applied to characters, not scenery. The characters may look antialiased but they are just blurred on the borders

Yeah, i can confirm this too. Just take a look at the settings.txt file:

QualityOptions.EdgeAA = true

Ah, yes. Pay more for the version with crap filtering, max 1280x720 res, max 30fps, only joypad support.

Or, pay 10-20$ less for a version that looks far better, runs far smoother and gives you more control options - and doesn't even need you to swap out a CD to run it.

Choices, choices....

Unless ATI or nVidia make a custom AA profile in their drivers, no AA for this game

tbh, i didnt even notice jaggies, only if i looked for them. In far cry 2, jaggies were so obvious for me.

I see the jaggies shimmering on boxes and things like that, but it's not overly distracting. It's just that most pc's here could easily handle the performance hit of AA, so why not just put it in there.
