Best (free) .avi to DVD burner?

I've been trying to find a good quality program that will allow me to burn an .avi file to a DVD with ease and without the trouble of aspect ratio screw-ups that I seem to encounter every time I try to burn an .avi with 'regular' DVD-ROM burning software (Intervideo Diskmaster in my case).

Preferably freeware, but I don't mind shelling out a few £ if I'm sure I'm getting my money's worth.

what do you mean burn an .avi file to a DVD? just burn ? that's all?

or you mean something that will convert to a dvd format then burn it?

one the best and easiest software i have ever used. it's 50 bucks but it's worth it.
You can change aspect ratio,change video size, make your own menus.. converts everything avi, divx, xvid, even mkv with AC3, DTS 5.1 sound
