Windows keeps poping up a message saying there is an error and asking if I want to report it to microsoft. My system specs are below.

Same for me. Does anyone know what is wrong with us?

Athlon 900
512 MB RAM
geForce FX5200 128MB
SB 4.1
Windows XP Professional

Hmm, very mysterious indeed...
Which driver version? DetFX? I doubt that matters, but who knows...

I tried detonator 43.45 and detonator 44.03 (FX) with same result. What version are you using with dawn demo?

Ogre demo also crashes but time machine and toys always work fine.

Another thing. I have DirectX 9.0a.

Thanks.

This is strange.

Does anyone ever notice that hardly no one ever needs help with a Nvidia card?

Now go over the rage3d. :angel2:

If nvidia will quit cheating now they have the best drivers.

How can I test if my dawn and ogre demos are corrupted?

Your DX version shouldn't matter because those demos are OpenGL :)
Who knows, might have something to do with the sound. Probably not, but maybe... Try downloading the nude patch for Dawn ( see in the last pages of the Nude Dawn thread ) and run the audio-off thingy.

You don't *have* to use the nude portion of the patch, just the audio-off one.

If other demos work, then yeah, it could be corruption... No idea how you could test that. If it installs fine and stuff, it probably isn't that...

I've tested the demos in other computer with a geForce4 Ti and NVEmulate and they work (bad, but they start), so it isn't file corruption.

I'll test the nude patch but I don't know... maybe a motherboard driver... (Asus A7V).

Thanks.

Not really when you think about it, all ATi owners go to rage 3D because thats where the ATi staff hang out while nVIDIA don't really hang out anywhere so people with problems are scattered.
NV news members: 8,305, Rage 3D members: 37,775.

When you think about the member ratio there an't many problems with over 35,000 members with ATi cards.

I can run Dawn just fine and I don't even have the minimum 512MB RAM requirement. However Ogre crash back out and won't even start, but I attribute that to not having enough memory in my system. :D

what are your system specifications dpollard55?

Yeah I know it's slow compared to most of you, but hey... it gets the job done very nicely and never gives me any trouble. I plan on upping the memory to 512MB in a couple of weeks though, mainly just for the hell of it. I play every game I have at 1024X768 (my LCD flat screen's maximum) in 32bit and it all runs smooth enough. I used to have a EVGA Geforce 4mx 440se PCI in it and that thing was dog slow, and had to play at 800x600, and one game (test drive 2002) at 640x480. For me this FX 5200 was a god send. Especially since I don't have an AGP slot!

alt.comp.periphs.videocards.nvidia

..you were saying? :D

I'm seeing like 150 reasonably current threads (started within the last 3days), most of which are ppl having problems with nVidia cards

With only 8000 members, nvnews is not representative of that many ppl, especially not compared to Rage3D..

I have the newest drivers from Nvidias website both Dawn and Ogre demo crash. I have tried turning the sound off in the Dawn demo through the nude patch but it still crashes.

I seem to recall from reading the ATI wrapper threads that Dawn makes use of SSE extensions, meaning your processor would have to be a P3, P4, Celeron, Athlon XP or recent Duron to support SSE extensions.

afaik the Tbird's don't support SSE.. and the ppl with Tbirds were the ones getting errors while trying to run Dawn.

dunno if that's specific to the OGL dawn wrapper for the ATI users or if it's applicable to all users.

Interesting- I can't run Dawn or Ogre either. This is on a 5800Ultra. I keep getting an error in 'Module: Cg .....etc..etc...'. Any ideas?

What system specification do you have quik_2_win?

We suspect of Athlon Thunderbird SSE incompatibility.

I don't think my problem is SSE instructions- some software glitch though, I suppose. I'm running Athlon T-bred 2100+/ DX9a/44.03 driver (same error with 43.45, and 43.51- isn't Cg part of the driver package?). The specific error is:
FAIRY caused an invalid page fault in
module CG.DLL at 0167:00649450.

1) I had less problems running the dawn demo on my r9700pro woth opengl wrapper than some 5200 owners

2) Rage3d has multiple times the amount of users than nvnews. SO it is logical that you see more error reports.

3) Multiple website have acknowledges that Ati drivers have improved dramatically:

Troll....??
I've never been kicked off any message board. I just call it as I see it.
I've had 0 problems with my NV cards. All I had is a big headache with my 9700 Pro and my 8500.
I'm just saying I see a hell of a lot more people with ati drivers problems vs nv.
If u do not like what I said "sorry"

There is a fix for Thunderbird processors.

Check this from Beyond3D (Colourless posts):

It works for me!!!

OK- thanks for the link to that thread. I didn't see much there that was relevant to my situation until I read someone stating that Dawn is only supported for WIN XP- I'm running 9X, I suppose that could be the problem. Has anyone run this demo on 9X or Me ?

Cool it works! Do you know if anybody has fixed the Ogre demo?
