With AMD making gains in the discrete graphics card market – rising to around 40% in third-quarter 2008 according to a recent report from Jon Peddie Research (JPR) – Nvidia is planning to cut its graphics card prices in an attempt to curb further loss of market share, according to sources at graphics card makers.

AMD anticipates taking 50% of the market after reducing prices for its ATI Radeon HD 4000 series products, but to counter Nvidia has also made moves to cut prices for its GeForce GTX 200, 9800 GT and 9600 GT series.

Not sure how much more NVIDIA can reduce the price and still manage some profit, anyway it is just a rumor but many sites are repeating the same digitimes news.

As long as they stay afloat its a good idea in the current climate to reduce the price of luxury items such as high end graphics cards.

shrinking the g80 20 times hasn't cost them that much now has it... they must have a few bucks hidden away.

What exactly are the current market share figures? Ive only heard talk.

Hopefully there will be a cheap 55nm GTX card soon so that I can step up for like $10. :p

Exactly! I hope I can get my EVGA FTW Edition 55nm based GTX 280 Qty. 2 for my SLI setup like I have now for near to nothing. If they jack the price up they will loose market shares and and ATI wll capture even beyond 65% of the market.

When? That is the key question.

Seriously? What a useless upgrade. I doubt they will be that much more powerfull.

I was going buy another two 280's but I think the safe thing to do is atleast wait for the 55nm launch. Supposedly the shaders will clock alot higher, and they offered the largest improvements when oc'ed on the current cards, so it's possible the performance difference would be noticeable. If not, 280 price cuts will be nice.

I got the second GTX 280. That way I don't have to buy two new cards and since I don't overclock my GFX cards, the refresh doesn't make much sense for me.
