I didn't say he was a pirate, I just said these companies hear sob stories from pirates all the time. I remember this one dude asking for technical help on Assassin's Creed in another forum I go to, swearing on his LIFE he was not a pirate, and then one of the other forum members foung his exact name, birthday and location on a well known pirate forum where he bragged about never paying for a game since 5 years ago.

So... every pirate has a story. That's all I meant.

I see... getting a game to work, okay, but doing something equivalent to OP's case would be silly... say the OP already arrr'd the game, why not just get a new key of the internet? So maybe not... I dono...

It's interesting I just ran Mass Effect and got no activation needed warnings. I have upgraded both my Windows and Games HDs and also my video card since the last time I ran it. So unless it stealthily went out and reactivated I should still be at 1 activation. Is there any way to check on how many activations you have?

It's interesting cause the way I upgraded my HDs was by cloning then resizing the HDs to use all the space so whatever SecuROM is using to check if the computer changed wasn't triggered. Though I am surprised that my video card didn't trigger an activation. Still I can't be sure if it didn't do it without notifying me.

as far as i know, and confirmed by bioware on their forums, mass effect doesn't do stealth activations. if required it will ask.

All you all can now bite me!

After EA released the DRM tool I can now play the game that i paid for.(After reformating I might add 2nd install) Not that I even play it i use it for a benchmark bout it.

Thats all from me for now. :headexplode:

Games that have limited activations only check this either during the actual install, or on the first time the game is run. The only reason it would thinki about reactivating it is if you formated windows, but not the game data.

I also don't belive you because games do not say "please uninstall this game" nore do they ask you to buy a new key, something you can't actually do.

And the majority of companies offer some way of contacting those in charge of the drm to ask for an extension or resetting of installations on a case by case bases. Most of these are never refused (unless the key has been attempted hundreds of times due to being leaked to the public), its just a pain in the ass to take the time out of your day to do so.

Oh HAY GAIZZ!!!11

Since the thread is resurrected I will add something.

Recently my dad bought Empire TW and he could not activate it because the key on the box was not working. :headexplode:

That is just full of **** if you ask me. I really don't wanna sound like one of those angry "anti-DRM" people, but cases such as my dad's just provoke piracy...

what it should provoke, is a simple call to Sega, and problem solved.

Have not thought of that, but somehow I ahve a feelign that it might be a bit more complicated, then again I have no experience of calling up companies for serials...

I think they will just tell u to go to the shop and exchange for a new one.. thats how it usually works.

Yeah aexcpet that my dad could not find the reciept in that case.

Hoever even though he said that he can't take it back to the shop without a reciept, he somehow managed to exchange it, what for I dono.
