Anybody know?
there is always gonna be something better around the corner. video cards are a waiting game. there will always be next generation games... as soon as doom3 ships, soon you will hear about quake4... a big waiting game. so its best to buy soon, then upgrade when it no longer satisifys.

So your saying I should just keep my currect videocard and just upgrade during Fall season? (September-October)

Would I need a new videocard for Deus Ex 2 thats coming out June to play my game on MAX details?
If you want to buy another Nvidia card, it would depend on if you want to buy high end or low end.
If you want to spend the money on a high end card like the nv35 I would say wait for the nv40. I'm not saying the nv35 is a bad card. In my opinion it is too closely related to the nv30 to spend $500 on. The nv40 should have completely wiped out any problems the nv30 may have had. It will be a completely new architecture. And after the nv30 I think Nvidia will go all out on the nv40. I don't see them holding back at all like they did with the nv30. They know they have serious competition now.
If you are wanting to buy something cheaper, then sure. Buy something now to hold you over until you can buy an nv40.

k, But is the NV40 coming out this FALL? And will I need a new v-card to play Deus Ex II on MAX details?

At this point I don't think anyone here knows what will be needed to play Deus eX II on Max details. We won't actually know until it's out. You aren't exactly hurting with the card you have now though. The 4400 is a fine card for now. As i said before. In my opinion, if you want to buy the top of the line $500 card, you should wait for the nv40. It can only be better than what is out now and it's not like you are hurting for a new card now.

i think for max details you will need an upgrade..
DEuxEx2 is using modified UNrealT2003 engine ..
but wait first for the game... and buy the best card when
the game is ready.

Don't anticipate. Wait until you purchase a game in which the performance is dissapointing. Then consider upgrading.
Just fyi, though, the NV40 is targetted for release around Christmas.
NV40 is to tape-out in July, be launched at Comdex and be in stores for Christmas.
And you said in another thread that you don't use AA/AF and play at 1280x1024. This puts you in a rather unusual situation, quite hard to say whether it'll be playable at "max" details with a GF4 Ti4400. My guess is that it might, but don't hope for more than 30FPS.
The NV40 should, if all goes as expected, be the biggest jump in performance since GF4->R300. Don't hope for as big of a jump though, because it's even quite likely we won't get that for a long while. The NV40 is also very focused on features ( PPP, VS3.0. / PS3.0. , ... )

Intel prescott cpu chipset grantsdale will use a new video card slot called pci-x 16 and via also have a chipset with pci-x 16 in the works.
So it kind of depends on if you plan to use your current cpu, motherboard and vid card together until this time next year or if you will change them when the next gen intel or amd cpu's and chipsets come out.

Well, if you really want to update around late October, it might be worth the wait. Be sure to ask again then to make sure there are no delays :)

Placid
I think is Pci Extreme (aka 3 GIO)
Pci X is the 64bit pci (or somthing)
. The NV40 is also very focused on features ( PPP, VS3.0. / PS3.0. , ... )
what is PPP?
Hasecorp won't upgrade to DX10 in
a long time (or at least they say so)
Why PS3.0/VS3.0?
Unlimitec code like Radeon9800?

PPP ( Programmable Primitive Processor )

You know, if by this summer you feel that your gaming rig is really lagging behind, pick up something like the 9500 Pro (if they're still available here in a few more months) to hold you over. Because while I'm also hearing NV40 is also due this fall, anything can happen on the back end of taping a new chip with a new design out. I'm not saying anything will happen and I'd be surprised if it does since Nvidia will be using .13u for NV40. But you never know.

Ya, I think I should just wait until October or around December to build my whole machine because there no game thats coming out this summer thats gonna make us want to upgrade our videocard until Fall when all the hardcore games come out like Doom III and Half Life 2, the only game I wanna play this summer is Deus Ex: 2 which will probably run with all MAX details with my current system anyway, so Im just gonna wait :)

Decisions decisions but this thread made me rethink if I should just get the 128MB version of NV35 to hold me over until NV40 in December. Don’t you just hate those decisions...
i think im gonna wait until around nv40 time... i believe that nvidia needs to get their act straight, and there has been too much b.s. surrounding the nv3x series. hopefully by that time we can see some pci express cards:D
then i can get a mobo with sata, pci express, and dual ddr with a p4 800mhz fsb:D :D :D yummmz:p

You do have a good rig for current games. If I were you, I'd wait too and see how Half-life 2, Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3, and Doom 3 all run on 2Ghz CPUs, and if your processor isn't really a bottleneck just pick whatever graphics board kicks the most butt this fall. If NV40 is somehow delayed, Nvidia will refresh NV35 and ATi is definitely releasing a .13u R3xx board for the OEM back to fall refresh.

by that I take it there will be a comdex this year uttar ?
I thought it was cancelled this year after the lack of enthusiasm last year...
Yes, he means Comdex 2003. Also, even if it was (by some chance) cancelled, the card would still be launched in the same time frame. They wouldn't hang around until the 2004 event :D
