View Full Version : Help me optimize my cpu for WOTLK
Anyone else getting really crappy performance?
Pre expansion I was getting 100+fps, No less than 70 in raid situations.
I even reformatted, reinstalled WOW (system needed a cleanup anyway)
Post-expansion.. My fps shows as 50 or so.. but it feels more like 20 or less.
My system specs are
Intel Q6600
Evga 8800gtx
Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6
4gb Dominator
Raptor HD
Vista 64 bit
Running Nvidia 7.15.11.7519 driver, I tried the newest revision and they were horrible.
Any tips? advice?
Thanks.

That's because you computer is not the problem. If your specs cannot run a 4 year old game, I'm the white Buck Wheat.
You can't compare settings you had pre-3.0. They increased everything with 3.0. The shadow system is completely revamped as well. Draw distance is much farther and new textures are more detailed. Nice shadows + longer draw distance = FPS killer.

It still isn't enough to make a big hit on a system like his. The only time my system has problems is when the zone I'm in is over loaded with players.
Noticed substantially lower performance in Northrend.
Currently at 25-30 fps flying over Borean Tundra.
Maxed everything out ofcource.
Itīs still very playable, but at times it gets pretty low.
I've got similar specs, not got a raptor HD, and running a gtx260 in XP.
Maxed out all my settings and it still performs fine. not sure what the issue with your system is

Are you running questhelper?
The newest version KILLED my performance on my 4870. I had to type /qh perf 20% to get my FPS back to normal
Same sh*t here and before Wotlk the game runs smooth as silk :thumbdwn:
I think the engine needs to be optimized...

While the 8800 GTX may be an older card, its still a fairly decent card by todays standards. However, I do think it is a little bit out of its league with running WoTLK. Like others said, try turning off any shadow and intense lighting options.

yeah in this case blizzard absolutely sucks at programming and scaling their software.
seriously if an 8800gtx can't handle WOTLK ........... LOL !!!
It could be the new shadows that is effecting the performance. i am sure more recent cards should be able to handle it fine with the shadows.
i saw some of the videos, it looks pretty good, the shadows that is.
The shadow engine they added to WOTLK is pretty nice if you ask me.
