So, does this mean that the AM3 mobos will be early too? :D
No, cause the first Phenom IIs will be socket AM2+.
I'm really looking forward to building a new AMD rig with the Phenom II :captnkill:

I can't wait till AMD release Phenom II. Maybe then we will see Intel drop there prices a little. :)

Maybe. The more I'm reading the more this appears like Phenom II will be for AMD what the HD4800 series has been for ATi.
The Core i7, from what I'm reading, is going to be faster clock for clock than Phenom II... but not by a significant margin. The Core i7 also runs *significantly* hotter than the Phenom II.
I think Phenom II will force Intel to either drop prices significantly on their Core2 processors to sooner clear out inventory. If they drop prices on Core i7, they'll not just be competing with Phenom II but also with themselves as there's still boat loads of Core 2 procs out there.
So my prediction is that the Core2 prices will be dropped, Core i7 will remain priced as is, and the Phenom prices won't budge much (at first) cause they already have the upgrade advantage being AM2+ and DDR2 compatible- a price saving point Intel cannot claim for Core i7.
Either way, I think next year is going to be very heated with competition all around- AMD vs Intel, ATi Vs nVidia. YAY! :D :p

Core i7 (2.6ghz) vs Shanghai (Opteron 8384)
http://www.anandtech.com/weblog/showpost.aspx?i=528
It seems Core i7 is being HINDERED by Hyper threading! With it on, it's only marginally ahead. Phenom II looks promising. If I can save $50+ I don't mind being behind 2-5fps. But I do mind being 20+ fps behind. I am happy with AMD's offerings this time around.

I am so interested in this chip, cause I haven't upgraded since 2005! I am looking, gathering info, etc.

Keep in mind current Shanghais are only using HT1.0 and DDR2. They should receive a nice boost (theoretically) once they get HT3.0 and DDR3 support next year.
I'm not expecting Shanghai nor Phenom II to slaughter Core i7... instead I'm betting they'll be competitive enough and priced low enough the gain AMD some ground.

That's good news

Does the troll care to explain himself?
Probably not, as the troll would more than likely deny the fact that if it had not been for the 4800s, we'd all be paying $600+ for a GTX280, and between $400 and $500 for the GTX260, and the GTX260 Core 216 more than likely would have never appeared.
As, after all, that'd be giving credit to a company other than Intel and nVidia. Can't let that happen.

Just for the record, LINPACK is Intel's own CPU stress test.

I'm aware of this. If they can test an AMD proc with LINPACK, is it not fair to test an Intel proc with LAPACK?
Wow those are some impressive numbers especially if it's an intel-made benchmark! :) This could very well be my next upgrade if it only manages to do well in other benchmarks. Never owned an AMD processor, but I wouldn't mind having an all AMD system next year. :)
