While searching around i found this topic and from what it reads the 8.12's should be very good drivers,if not the best for ATI/AMD

Good news, and betatesters have commented that a good 3D performance increase is coming too. Now we only need PhysX support, I hope Mirror's Edge will make ATI implement it

It's been pretty annoying with the constant driver releases that add almost nothing. It probably just seems that way because I'm going to betas first... upgrading drivers every 2-3 weeks makes it seem like almost nothing changes.

Yeah,

ATI needs some better drivers.....those new nVidia drivers and the 260/216 are really kicking some ass.

ATI had best get on the ball in the driver department because they are getting killed right now in that area.

Yeah, I'm very disappointed with the quality/issues with the ATI. Previously I've been on nVidia and while the issues have been there, I felt the quality and responsiveness for fixes was much better.

I actually have my 4870X2 up on eBay now and if it sells for $500+, I'm gonna pick up a 260 Core 216 for like $200 on eBay and play around with that until the next gen arrives...

why si it so many have bad, experience with ATI now when a few months ago everybody praised them to heavens.

Now all ya guys as it seems to me wanna get rid of them?

how come i donīt experience any problems not more than i did on my 8800īs (G80)

i was to buy a gtx of some sort but then the HD4870 came and i am so pleased.

so whay do so many have issues with them and not me?

just a thought and a question

:)

i use the 8.11 "hotfix" wich was more 8.10 hotfix?

fres XP install

FC2 run2 loop2
* Total Frames: 3101, Total Time: 51,01s
* Average Framerate: 60,79
* Max. Framerate: 79,36 (Frame:454, 6,46s)
* Min. Framerate: 48,02 (Frame:2065, 33,87s)

damn that is some good looking numbers for my rig that is :)

or is it?

I'm still happy with my purchase......the 4870 is much faster than the 8800GTX it replaced....however, I think that ATI better invest some time, effort and $$$$ into their drivers....if nVidia can pull a 10% increase in performance for the core 216 outta some drivers ATI better damn well do the same for the 4870's....otherwise they can't be disappointed with consumers when they start throwing their money back @ nvidia.

Just my .02

Just to keep on topic with stream computing this thread is about, here is ATI answear to NVIDIA Badaboom which also should be included in the Catalyst 8.12.
The best about it is that unlike the Badaboom the ATI Avivo video converter is going to be free download.

Badaboom was a huge disappointment. I hope this one has proper support for HD files!

Well I'm not going to make it to the 8.12s as ATI lost me along the way with their erratic driver releases. Full versions that didn't include the previous hot fixes and terrible release notes for the full versions and hot fixes...

I'm back to nVidia and hopefully I'll be happy again. I loved my 8800GTX so hopefully the GTX 260 core 216 will be good to me for awhile too!

Good luck ATI guys, I think the hardware is super powerful but the software guys at ATI need some help!! I manage a software dev team for a living and what they put out for releases is beyond explanation to me...

It sure isn't what I experience with the ATI cards and from reading many others forum I don't think most other people are having such horrible experience with ATI hardware or drivers like you describe.

Anyway same good luck to you.

Can we please keep this thread on topic about the stream processing instead off the constant ATI drivers bashing which seems to be favored subject of this forum, specially in this days when ATI is more than competitive. Thank You.

It sure isn't what I experience.

Didnt you know Heinz that your the only one that knows what he is doing and everyone else is just wrong? I mean...........all these members here leaving ATI and going back to Nvidia over poor driver support must be a figment of your imagination so dont let it bother you to much. :lol:

i might return my ATI 780G board back to newegg, while i still have a chance. SATA is still not working correctly.

Does this, or will this stream processing have anything to do with why video - any video - will pause every 30 seconds or so on me? I have a Visiontech HD 4870, running the 8.11s. Everything else runs pretty sweetly, but some of these video pauses are up tp 40 seconds. What's it doing...buffering every half minute?

Hmm...

I've been contemplating getting a couple 4870s or 4850s for my E6600 box. I have been watching more movies on my rig than I used to so this is becoming a concern for me.

Also, my Phenom II box will probably be sporting CrossFire (not sure if nVidia will allow nForce for Phenom IIs - no word on this yet :( ). So if there are issues with video play back it'd definitely be something I'd like to know how to resolve.

any examples? Blu-Ray playback is rather bad on 780G Radeon 3200, and on 3450 wasn't any better.

what type of video?

container: ?? example: MP4, TS, M2TS, MKV etc...
video codec: ?? example: VC1, H264, AVC1, Divx, Xvid, mpg2 etc...
audio codec: ?? example: AAC, AC3, EAC3, DTS, MP3 etc...
Bitrate??

Hey nekro, yeah, should have been much more clear. Any video within a browser, except for youtube. Downloaded gametrailers also, pause badly.

DVD playback is smooth but IQ is grainy.

Audio is good so far.

Tried Vista's default codecs as well as klite.

Now back to Klite codec pack 431 with wmp classic and ffdshow, mpeg2 for video. Audio I left at default on the install, as I don't know exactly what each does, as well as a ton of those settings..not sure.

something i have noticed on my old xp install was if my ide dvd-rw in the log-->system had a red (x) it could make the whole damn computer to lag so much i had to reboot and voila it was gone.

why it did so i do not know but i will eventually go fo a sata burner if those are better than ide burners

I'm a little confused about this "Video Converter" driver.
I use Sony Vegas to convert and edit my videos. Will this work with any editing/converting software or is there a catch?

vista defualt codecs? only codecs that it has is wmv, mpeg2(in 64bit only). there are really no 3rd party codecs in vista.

first step I would recomend is getting rid of all 3rd party codecs, something is causing issues on your system, starting clean would be good idea.

if you want to keep it very basic, then ffdshow + halli media splitter , if you want more options then vista codec pack is probably the best codec pack, has all you need, and no extra **** like klite.

use program gspot, to find out what codecs you have installed now.
