BCS Views...What is yours? [Archive]

So, I was wondering what other people's view is of the BCS. I think it sucks that College Football doesn't have playoffs. I say this just because our UofU team had a killer season 12-0 and it would be cool to see if they could have taken on teams like Texas...

I have yet to hear an argument for the BCS that can't be dismissed (mostly because D2 and D3 are already doing it, and their student-athletes actually have to worry about the student aspect as well).

Obama wants playoffs...He's said it a few times, even recently. Let's see what kind of power the "Most Powerful Man in the World" really has. If he gets College Football to have playoffs in the next 4 years, I WILL vote for him in 2012! (Though I doubt it will happen, the bowls make the colleges WAY too much money for them to give that up)...

I have to disagree here. I'm selfish and enjoy bowl season far too much to see it done away with. :D

Also, controversy is great for sparking interest.

Also, ESPN locked down the BCS games until 2014, so there's no shot for a playoff until that contract is up.

I don't know, I know it's not perfect, but neither would be the playoffs. Someone is always going to have an argument about being left out, etc. Like nrdstrm said, the Bowls make way too much money the way it is now, so I don't see, and doubt I'll ever see, it change. One thing that is kind of screwy, is that some conferences have Championship games and other don't, which can be helpful, sometimes. I do think it sucks that it seems like the same teams go to about the same bowls year after year, for example, seems like there is always a California team in the Rose Bowl. OU has been to the Rose Bowl one time in it's history, of course, OU's Bowl seems to be the Orange Bowl, if you look back through history. ;) I don't think there will ever be a perfect system, but who knows what the future holds.

I don't think anyone is advocating completely eliminating bowl games, just adding a playoff system on top of it. If they are then I see why people are opposed, but that's never going to happen so it's not worth worrying about.

And Slippe, the Rose Bowl is traditionally the Pac 10 champion against the Big 10 champion. The one that OU went to was probably the year it was the national championship and they broke that tradition (another gripe people have with the BCS, incidentally, although it has nothing to do with a playoff system).

Well you'll probably get your wish for a Pac-10 Big 10 Rose Bowl this year. Hopefully it's USC and not Oregon State vs. PSU.

I don't want play offs and I don't like a national championship. I liked college football the way it used to be. You had the top two teams from different conferences battle each other in their bowl game. Then you had a few bowl games sprinkled around that teams were invited to. I loved these old rivalries. Now it is complete crap. NO school that is not from the PAC 10 and the Big 10 should ever be in the Rose Bowl.

I just don't think a national champion is necessary. I am quite content with my Huskies winning the Rose Bowl... if they ever get back there...
