"It's going to happen," said Ecclestone. "All the teams are happy. The whole reason for this was that I was fed up with people talking about no overtaking. The reason there's no overtaking is nothing to do with the circuit or the people involved, it's to do with the drivers not needing to overtake.

"If you are in the lead and I'm second, I'm not going to take a chance and risk falling off the road or doing something silly to get two more points. If I need to do it to win a gold medal, because the most medals win the world championship, I'm going to do that. I will overtake you."

The old points system was much better because of this reason. There was a big gap between first and 2nd place.

i'll just add this bit of news here:

Honda is on the verge of leaving F1, unless they can find a buyer for the team. is this related to the economy? or to Bernie's madness, namely new engine rules two years ago, new aero design, a move to a single engine supplier in 2010 ....? is this just the first of the big manufacturers to leave F1?

i'm done with the racing series, ever since Bernie held the gun to the Canadian gov't for $175-million over 5 years just to stage the Montreal race. i'm glad the gov't didn't give him his money.

next up to lose their race? Germany?

"Formula One will disappear not just from Hockenheim but from Germany as a whole," he tells the German daily Der Tagesspiegel. "Then it will only be run in Arab countries."

According to the newspaper, Hockenheim lost more than $6.8-million playing host to the German Grand Prix this past year. In 2009, the race is slated to be held at the Nurburgring as part of the deal which alternates the event between the two circuits.

However, if Hockenheim cannot stage the race in future years, Nurburgring organizers say they are not in a position to play host to the Grand Prix every year.

I haven't liked Hockenheim ever since they re configured it, so good riddance. I think Toyota will leave too. They have the biggest budget of all of them, and aren't getting the results.
