i personally uninstalled my forcewares, rebooted with the 8800 still in so i got basic vga drivers then shutdown and got the new card in, installed the current drivers and i was away playing (lee63)
*edit* i notice you currently have an ATI so my advice probably aint that ideal for ya :(

I don't have my ati card it died:(I'm using a 8800gts right now can't wait for the GTX260(nana2)
Well as you have an nVidia card right now I think it's pretty safe just to do what you said but I allways do a fresh install to be safe and to get it totaly clean as a new start just feels nice :)
Just test it out I think it wont be a prob as you have nVidia card/ Forsware drivers right now!

Heh heh, I have a GTX 260 core 216 coming too. I sold my 4870 x2 on eBay so it should be fun to play with nVidia again for awhile until the next wave of new cards hit...
I got my 260 core 216 for $145 after Microsoft 30% instant cash back on eBay and a 20% off coupon I had. Not bad!

Now thats a great deal!
hey there. I too have given up on ATI in disgust and gone "home" to Nvidia. I had fond memories of my 7800GTX!
Am currently in the process of selling my both 4870's (512mb's) and should be getting the XFX GTX260 (216) Black Edition tomorrow morning.
The amount of stress and angst, that having an ATI Crossfire setup involves means that going for Nvidia is a really easy choice. I don't care what anybody says... the 4870X2 cannot and should not be compared to the GTX 260 or 280.
Without CFX profiles, there is no scaling and both GTX's can rape a single 4870. Remember that ATI take almost 3 months to get a Crossfire profile for a game.
As far as I am concerned Nvidia are going to be the choice of proper gamers for a while as can be evidenced by users such as ourselves who gave ATI the benefit only to slapped in the face by ATI/AMD.
I really hope that Nvidia can make ATI bleed when 40nm transition occurs next year. My two cents and to all Nvidia users!!! Enjoy your GPUS!!! :captnkill:

I can say I still enjoy ATI, sorry but they make good cards and they add the needed competition. That being said, enjoy the XFX I got mine last Wednesday and I've not been happier. Enjoy guys!
My 4850 works well. My only issue is with Aero and my driver reseting. The performance is real good, I think I could just use some more.

No you dont :P The only reason the 260 and 280 are as cheap as they are is because of ATi! If ATi didnt come out with the 4850/4870 the 260's would be $400 and the 280's would be $650! Trust me...ATi's drivers suck! They have a lot of work to do. Personally, I hope both come out with great cards.
I think the consensus is that ATI drivers suck for new games when using crossfire. Single card works fine for me and most everyone else I have seen. The few issues I've seen with single card setups are RMAs.

that might be true, but to be more excact i would say because of competition. if ATI was market leader for 3+ years their prices would have been higher, and nvidia would make them lower it.
it is not because ati is some type of savior.

I don't think he was calling them a savior I think he was only pointing out what you just said. If it weren't for the competition of ATI we'd be paying for overpriced video cards. Yes it works both ways for ATI and NVIDIA but what I think Jas28 was trying to say was don't wish that NVIDIA or ATI ever puts the other out of business. Or else we'll be paying $400 for GTX260 standards not $250 for Core 216s.
I don't think ATI is a savior and I don't think they are better than NVIDIA but they came back strong with the 4000 series and I for one couldn't be happier seeing as it made my NVIDIA purchase that much nicer. And for what it's worth I still have ATI and recommend it, I'm not a sucker for this blind fanaticism. Competition for the win! :D

How did you manage to get a few discounts to get that price? I need to get one for myself as well. Been using an 8800GTS 320MB forever. Time to upgrade...
LOL of course you are right on that! I guess I meant that I hope that Nvidia win the at 40nm, but with ATI closely behind in order to keep prices sane!
I have a good feeling that Nvidia will triumph as well as they are going to 40nm before ATI which would be a first as usually ATI goes for die shrinks first. I prefer close competition but with Nvidia as the overall victor. I reckon PC gaming would be dead if Nvidia took AMD/ATIs attitude to working with game devs... So thank god for Nvidia
Frankly I can say this. ATI image quality "seems" in my opinion at least to be inferior to Nvidia quality in the latest games like Fallout 3 where HDR is totally broken on ATI hardware!:thumbdwn: Plus GTA4 has totally crapped out on ATI hardware due to excellent ATI driver support (sarcasm meter overload ;) )...Check out PCGH for the article
The XFX 260 (216) Black Edition is truly amazing and smokes my previous 4870.I have realised that TWIMTBP campaign isn't a gimmick... There really is a difference in visual quality, gameplay and lack of input lag...(here's looking at you Crossfire). So let ATI enjoy their small period of respite because I assure you Intel and Nvidia will give them some major problems in 2009.
My regards to all Nvidia users! :)

Wow, you dont like to give ATI ANY credit. In this case, yes, they were the savior of the $650 single GPU solution. But, my main point was competition. Its good...I dont want to see either side take a huge lead. I want them both at the top of their game...cuz when they are...WE WIN! :)
