Ok, I guess I'm a dummy because I can't find anything on what the setting should be on the Far Cry 2 widescreen mod.

The tool defaults to to something, but I'm runniing the game at 1680x1050. Are there settings I should be using on this resolution? Are most people using the mods default settings?

Man, hope Ubisoft new patch coming out really fixes this.

remember the site and the location, it will save you lot of trouble. (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=143018#143018)

download the fov hack (you need one version for 1.0 and one version for 1.01), check your main menu screen to see which version you have.
set your settings to

X FOV: 1.253
Y FOV: 1.31

that should be the appropriate ones for 1680x1050.

I needed to update the solution on the WSGF ...
These seem to be the best settings for 16:10 ... 1440X900 ... 1680X1050 ... 1920X1200 ... 2560X1600 ...

X FOV: 1.2
Y FOV: 1.333

and ...
You only need the one version of the tool (in that link in hirantha's post above) ... there is a radial button to choose the version of the game you are running ... v1.0 or v1.1 ...

Ah thanks, that's what I was looking for. I kept at default and still seemed off. I'll try that tonight.

So, my next question is, how do I bring that box back up with the FOV's in it? Is that box suppose to stay minimized on the desktop when playing far cry 2, or can I exit out completely.

thx.

Keep the tool running and minimized. It remembers your settings in an INI file in the folder where it runs from. So once you get it set, you just fire it up and minimize it from then on and your settings will remain.

@ 16:10
X FOV: 1.2
Y FOV: 1.333

4:3 > 16:10 comparison at those settings:

No idea, my monitor would explode at that high of a res.

just leave the hack running, and launch far cry2. When you are ingame, press the little star (*) above the nine (9) in the numpad. You should see your view change. If you want to change it back, press the slash (/) to the left of the asterisk.

Or better yet... check the box that enables it automatically so you dont have to worry about hitting it on and off by mistake :)

well there aren't many keys for far cry 2 on the numpad ;), i didnt worry about it. plus there is a pretty massive difference for when you have it enabled and when you dont. So its easy to notice if you hit by mistake.

Is it possible to just adjust the FOV with this tool for a non-widescreen 4:3 monitor? It seemed like the game was very "zoomed in" to me, like the FOV was way too low for a CRT.

i know exactly what you mean, thats what the fix does. Kindda zooms out.

Can you just set the FOV in degrees? Or do I have to know what numbers to put in for a 4:3 res?

Not that I'm going to play it again any time soon after beating it...
