This week, Microsoft unveiled one of Windows 7’s new features, which will allow games and other DirectX 10 and 10.1-based applications to run fully accelerated on obsolete graphics hardware, and even on systems with no graphics acceleration at all.

...WARP from a hardware standpoint will be able to display graphics even when the video card is missing—or toasted
:wonder: This is even better

This is to remove the developers excuse of using crap PS2 ports on PC saying "We have to cater for those with low end vid cards".

This is funny. They trying to show us that CPU can be used to play games for 10 years with the same effect... ****ty effect. Do people have nothing to do in their works? They should better start helping developer like rockstar to show them how game should use CPU. Making CPU competitive for GPU is useless.

yup it is... for example it says Core i7 8-Core @ 3.0GHz... core i7 has 4 cores, 8 threads... it also says Core 2 Quad (Penryn) @ 3.0GHZ... should be either Yorkfield (45nm) or Kentsfield (65nm)... also Core 2 Duo (Penryn) @ 3.0GHz which is unlikely that theyre using a mobile cpu and it should say wolfdale

No matter what you think of Tomshardware this article is also on microsoft's developer network. Doesn't dispute the fact of how pointless it is though.

i completely agree... ive read that article and my first thoughts were of just how useless it is... youre much better off buying an 8400GS for dirt cheap if you must really play at 800x600 with everything on lowest:headexplode:... interesting to see how the intel integrated solution is worse than a quad core at 3ghz... should be funny to see what sort of FPS you can get at 1920x1200 max details...

Is Crysis playable at 3 fps?

I would have to agree with the general consensus... Seems pointless.

It depends on who writes the article IMO. Some of their writers aren't very good. When you can easily spot 10 mistakes in an article they obviously didn't proof read it. They do have some decent writers though so I've read a good article from time to time. It's really kind of hit or miss.

WARP could actually be useful for developers. It would be like a middle ground between making a full blown game and a crappy flash based game. MS will probably use it to add effects to Solitaire or minesweeper. I think the idea behind WARP is to help capitalize on casual gaming. Think of all of the cheesy games like bejeweled that people play. This could help bring real graphics those games without the need for a decent gpu.

actually sounds a little like its catering to Intel's upcoming chip which they claim is graphics centric.

The only way i can see this happening is if Intel is working with Microsoft to get Ray Tracing done and optimised for current Cpu's ASAP

You guys are missing the big picture here. Do you know how much nicer it's going to be when troubleshooting game issues? You'll be able to determine if its a driver issue or if the game is just horribly coded. This is going to be great.
