The thing that would screw ATI is if Direct X 9.1 has 32 FP and was released just before the R360 was released. Since the R360 will use FP 24 color I think ATI will be unhappy if DX 9.1 supports 32 FP since the GFFX supports 32 FP. Then nVIDIA releases the NV40 in fall/winter that is compliant with DX 9.1. I think this is one way nVIDIA could win but the part where DX 9.1 will be released just before ATI releases the R360 is very unlikely.

considering the speed... or the lack thereof... of nvidia products operating @ that precision... I find that unlikely...

also I find it hard to believe that the dx9 api could be changed thus... w/o input from the IHV's most likely to make the products..

more so support for fp32 or rather... additional support will be added... but to have it only as fp32 would be extremely boneheaded...

I really doubt it will matter, because it 'supports it' just treats it as 24.

What would really screw them a giant earthquake that took out all of tmsc's fabs at the same time.

That would screw up not only ATI entire market would be crippled :o Computer chip's prises would rise realy fast *and that is very bad*

Whats that R360? I thought R400 was the next one ATI is releasing?

What the hell is DirectX9.1?

When/Why is it coming out? AFAIK DX9.0 already supports PS3.0 and VS3.0, which no card supports in hardware yet. Why would they need a new version of DX9?

And ditto, NV3x falls flat on its face when using FP32 in any magnitude.

NV30 can't handle FP16 lol

Ati will release r400 by the next of this year, for a few months we will see r360.

No Point creating 32 bit precision, It's soo over kill for any given number of reasons. There's no merit for Microsoft doing this.

ATI in regards to DirectX 9.0 is in a "fine" situation indeed. There pixel shader is so grossly over powered right now compared to anything else out there ;)

Basically a boosted R350 (9800) core. No big tech leap before the R400.
